Six cylinder to V8 swap and the three speed manual trans

I’m exploring the possibility of swapping out my stock six cylinder block for a small block V8 in my ‘64 C10. A small block seems like a relatively easy, budget conscious swap. Two or three questions:
1) can I use my stock three on the tree manual trans, and if so, is it a matter of having the right bellhousing and it should all bolt up fine? I assume a new clutch would also be required?
2) were the brakes the same in the six vs the v8? FWIW my ‘64 is a stock, base model if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance.

I swapped my 6 for an 8 many years ago. Pretty sure it all bolted up. Brakes are the same. get them adjusted and bled well they should be fine

Re: Six cylinder to V8 swap and the three speed manual trans

If its a 230 or 250 then the engine mounts the same and bolts to the trans no problem. If its a 292 you'll need to find a passenger side mount. The throttle linkage arm on a V8 is taller than on a 6, I cut mine and lengthened it to match the V8 height. Engine harness is different but you can get a reproduction harness. You'll need a V8 sized radiator and a fan shroud since the V8 is shorter and the stock fan will be too far away from the radiator, or swap to an electric fan from an HHR.

That’s great, thank you both - I didn’t realise the engine mounts were the same on those engines, so that’s even better. Stupid question, but do I need a new bellhousing?

The same bellhousing is used on V8 and 230/250/292 inline 6s. You can reuse your flywheel and clutch as well. When I bought my old '66 with a 250 it had just had a new clutch installed and I transferred it over to the 283 I swapped in.
