Re: WTB 1970 Dark Blue tailgate

Here's hoping you find your gate...

But just for clarity and for those checking in, this 508 dark blue is a 1970 only color(sometimes denoted 1970 1/2). 508 dark blue was a different color altogether in 1969. Dark blue changed again in 1971, but its RPO changed to 523.

Good luck with the search. Killer truck.

Appreciate the help and I’ve noticed that on other pictures. It had me a bit confused. So if I have my paint guy try and color match, what color code would I be giving him?

Is there a different code for the 70 version of dark blue poly?

Here is a great thread for you: https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo...d.php?t=507395

Same color blue...Dave does a nice job documenting the build.

It's PPG 2169

Really appreciate all your help. Can you explain when he says it’s color code 592, a two tone? That the factory color code for the dark blue poly and the white?

If the truck was all blue the color code would just be 508?

I’ll let my painter know to use PPG 2169 on the tailgate spot in.

Re: WTB 1970 Dark Blue tailgate

592 is the RPO for a "Special Two Tone", white/dk blue/white. In 1970 there were four paint options. Solid, conventional two tone (white cab), special two tone (white cab and white below lower molding), and custom two tone (cab is a secondary complementary color which is not white).

508 is solid dark blue
538 is conventional two tone (521 white cab/508 dk blue body)
592 is special two tone (like Dave's)
559 is custom two tone (501 med blue cab/508 dk blue body)

You can do a search of the board and there are a few threads on this. A lot of us get especially excited about the custom two tones. Pretty cool and not that many out there.

Re: WTB 1970 Dark Blue tailgate

I can't be sure, but you may be the luckiest guy I know. Looks like a '70 dark blue to me. Shout out to JoesJunk for the heads up.

I know it's got the molding. But that's a genuine hen's tooth right there.

That's a nice find. He might have gotten his gate fixed up if I remember correctly
