Re: 1972 K10 Ebay Truck

Weld-thru primer on all the seams and concealed areas. Reinstalled mount plate and forward cab support. I didn't like the outside shoulder on the forward cab repair panel, so I cut it down and mated it to the one piece outer floor extension panel, LMC P/N 38-7905. I've used it a couple times now, and I really like how it mates to both NOS and aftermarket outer rockers. Added approximately 20 lbs of .023 ESAB Easy-Grind MIG wire, ground off approximately 19.9 lbs of the aforementioned wire, and voila, starting to look like a truck floor again!

Re: 1972 K10 Ebay Truck

This truck is turning out too nice to use aftermarket rockers, time to hit the NOS! Test fits like a glove.

Blasted rockers, masked seams and sprayed epoxy on the interior. Followed with a coat of weld-thru primer on the seams.

Houston, the yellow has landed! Cream yellow with flattening agent to match the faded 525 GM yellow. Get it a little dirty and no one will ever know

Cleaned and primered the window frames, installed new window glass and the original trim. It was a challenge.

Couldn't resist shifting gears and working on wheels and tires. Wheels are CUCV 15x8.5 steelies. Blasted the rims to bare steel and pre-baked them at 450. Hot flocked a coat of Prismatic zinc infused epoxy powder, then top coated with urethane powder as soon as it flowed out. Tires are 33x10.5 BF Goodrich All Terrain T/A's.

Re: 1972 K10 Ebay Truck

Finally got the engine components back from the machine shop and started putting it back together. Setting it up with 9.0:1 compression, Comp 206/212 roller cam, full roller rockers, Summit 2.5 inch iron exhaust manifolds, and a stock iron intake. Planning to use a Quadrajet for a somewhat stock look (if you can ignore the extra tall valve covers).

No, I went with a Comp CCA-7100 double roller chain. The timing cover is a Cloyes two piece with an adjustable roller cam button to set the cam lash. https://www.cloyes.com/high-performa...-timing-cover/ . I would not use this cover again, it doesn't clear a short water pump, so I had to shim the pump and the accessory pulleys.

Re: 1972 K10 Ebay Truck

On to the greatest transmission ever built, the granny low SM465! I had a lot of slop in the driveline due to worn splines, so I replaced the transmission main shaft and the coupler sleeve. Also installed the upgraded third gear and countershaft spacer to prevent the transmission from popping out of third. I rebuilt the top cover with new shift forks and ordered the one piece shifter from Novak. Hopefully it will be a nice tight shifting transmission!

Excellent work on the truck. Watching the SM465 rebuild. I need to do one for one of the K20's.

Re: 1972 K10 Ebay Truck

NP205 overhaul complete; with parts, tools and tech data from Torque King. I replaced the 10 spline input shaft as well as the bearings. I think a lot of that "klunk" that you hear on these manual transmission trucks is connected to the 10 spline coupler between the transmission and the transfer case. I replaced my coupler and both shafts, so I'm hoping to have a nice tight drivetrain for years to come.

Re: 1972 K10 Ebay Truck

You are correct. I took my 70 apart and found the output shaft of the trans was worn like crazy and the coupler must have been just bouncing around in there as it was bad on both ends. I think I put a good amount of synthetic grease on my shafts of the 203-205 setup I have now. It was a long time ago.
