C-60

Sorry I have to ask a dumb question.
I'm looking at a 1960 C-60 truck, all original low miles 63K in good shape. But my question is what is a C-60?
2 1/2 ton?
2 ton?
5 ton?

It has a two speed rear end, 4 spd trans, PTO, duel tires on the rear axle so I know it is a heavier duty truck but I'm not sure what it is.

Thanks

Re: C-60

A C60 is considered a 2 1/2 ton. I don't remember just what the GVW is on a C60 even though I own one Mine is a '63 with a 292, 5 speed and a 2 speed rear, 9.00-20's.

Re: C-60

The rating is really based on the axle capacities combination front and rear. You can get a 15,000 lb. 17,000lb and a maximum GVW of 19,500 lbs on a C60.

Re: C-60

Remember if you buy it to follow up with your local and federal DOT rules and regulations. Once behind the wheel of that beast you are subject to them.

Re: C-60

Try to have the truck registered as an antique vehicle, no body in their right mind would use these trucks to turn a profit. Here they classify the vehicle by weight. You can have the weight rating reduced on your registration. Have a public scale receipt to prove how much the truck weighs. Adjust the weight as close as you can to the cutoff point.

Re: C-60

must be alot of people here out of thier mind!
there are about 5-6 roofing businesses here that still use these big guys for thier jobs.. I want 'em all
granted all they do is sit at the job site, and then make a run to the dump..
I would say there are about 10 of 'em still in use around town.

Re: C-60

Had an argument with the licence bureau over the weight rating of the truck to avoid a commercial plate status. Would have to fill out a logbook if I drove further than 100 miles radius from the home base address. Not allowed to cross the border or travel into another province without getting permits. I wanted the GMC 960 for fun not for commercial use. Because of the carrying capacity, I was not allowed to register it as an Antique Vehicule. I stated that it was not for any financial gain, they look at it as for the potential stress that it could exert on the road surface even if the load is yours personally. Bummer! Sold it to a landscaper!

Re: C-60

I`m getting my 63 C50 parts truck, if all goes well this weekend. I want to see what else is compatible.
Example: Motor mount perches, radiator ( someone stole mine out of one of my donor trucks first day when I brought it to work) , clutch linkage etc.

Re: C-60

The DOT rules on that vehicle would be....DOT numbers, health card, DOT inspection and log book over 100 miles. Now.....it depends on who pulls you over, with or without and antique tag, as to the end result. With revenue down all these departments are stepping up their enforcement.

Re: C-60

The cabs are basically the same, except they don't have a trans hump.....just flat from left to right side. There is still a removeable access panel there though.

Re: C-60

Thanks for all the replys!
The truck is in amazing shape for it's age and even has a spare 292 6cyl engine that comes with it. It runs fine with the original engine but extra parts are cool. I fell in love with it because it is so clean and untouched, one owner used on his farm since day one. I will have to check with my DMV to find out what all is involved with being legal with it though. I just want it to haul stuff around for the house or maybe locally load up a car and take to a car show, or tow the car trailer. It would be so cool to trailer my 68 Z/28 with that big beast painted the same LaMans Blue and white as the Z. Thanks again to everyone
