Question Oil pump gasket question

So I'm rebuilding a 250 inline 6 for my 1976 C10.
The oil pump gasket that came with my gasket set is not lining up to my liking (hard to explain without showing a picture) I was thinking I would rather make my own gasket but got to wondering if it matters what type of material I use to make it.
Will regular gasket paper work? If so what thickness should I use?
I'm only thinking about this because of the oil pressure. Is this even a problem?

Re: Oil pump gasket question

So long as the suction port and pressure port on the pump is covered by the gasket, it will be fine.

I have seen many different variations of port location etc....none of them seem to make a difference so long as the ports are fully surrounded....

Place the gasket on the pump and taje a pic and upload it...that way we can see what your concerns are...

Re: Oil pump gasket question

Edit: I guess I'm stupid I forgot to attach the pic to the post.
Ok here's the pic.
Notice the gap on the upper right.
And yes I have tried flipping the gasket opposite ways and it still has a gap.

Re: Oil pump gasket question

That is the wrong gasket....that will suck air and not prime...

Post a pic of the gasket sitting on the oil pump face .....

Re: Oil pump gasket question

By the way I just realized I was wrong when I said that my gasket came with my gasket set .
It actually came my pump.
My gasket set didn't come with an oil pump gasket for some reason.

Re: Oil pump gasket question

So back to my original question: what material should I use to make my own gasket?

Re: Oil pump gasket question

Simple...

Take the new gasket that appears to have an incorrect cutout and use a digital caliper to measure the thickness.

Should be around 0.6 to 0.8 mm.

Most auto parts outlets sell various thicknesses of gasket paper.

Do not use cork !!!!!!
