Ogre, my dad once told me that if you stand on a street corner in NY sooner or later someone would walk by that you knew.... Being only 6 or 7 i told him no way that could happen to many people in the world..... but now that i'm much older it's become a very small world..... I was only 8 when we left NC and went back for just one year when i was about 11 but still have a ton of stories to tell about that place.... When i went there the HS was still standing. played my first baseball game at salem in little league.. our house if you google earth was the one in the middle at the cross roads of Burkemount and Brown Rd.. Brown Rd was named after the Brown family that owned all the land that now has all the houses on it.. the old farm house is still at the end of the road at the curve .. most of the streets in that area are named after people i knew when we lived there.... ..

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck

This seat came out of a 1979 Cadillac Coupe Deville. 6-way electric adjustment with stamped steel pan with foam inserts and fold down arm rest. Original material was brown velour. Its 53 inches wide and fits nicely in the cab. Left the head rests off when I upholstered the seat. To me its very comfortable.

Interesting color scheme, what made you choose it?

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck

Hey SCHRUMGMC. I had Clarance J painted yellow in 1975. At that time the upholstery was a dark and light brown vinyl. This time around I wanted something different. Looked at a lot of colors and liked the contrast so Lt aqua was my choice for both paint and upholstery.

Here is a set of cavalier buckets. They are going to fit with my console idea. They look really low but feel great

Here's my '57 seat that I just had done:

He did the visor and arm rests in the same vinyl and the headliner will come from that roll of material:

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck

Thanks guys.
Unfortunately for me, my upholstery guy just retired. He's in his mid 70's so he deserves to quit and I'm happy for him.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck

It's good timing for me that someone brought this thread backup. I just got my truck back and having the seat redone is on my to-do list. I;m thinking something like the white one or the tan one but mine will be in blue. My truck has the BBW now and I'm up in the air about having the back lowered or not. I'm not sure if I want to do it.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck

"Back lowered"?

Do you mean lowering the seat back so it won't show through the big back window? By sectioning the frame or by cutting the mounts somehow to lower it?

If this is about the seat not showing through the back window I can tell you for sure you want to do it if only because the Sun will absolutely COOK the seat. The originally seat on my truck had been redone in a chocolate vinyl at some point and it was so brittle it would literally snap like a potato chip on the top edge from the Sun.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck

All modern standard cab trucks since 1970something have a big back window. Yet when we talk about classics people worry about the seat back showing through the window? You would have to take a lot of seat height out to avoid sun damage. Never heard of anyone wanting to cut the seat on their modern truck because they could see it through the window... To each his own. I'm tinting my windows and leaving the seat back alone.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck

The last small window cab for Chevrolet was in 1967 as far as I know. This conversely makes the small windows more desireable where the big back windows were considered more desireable to some before. They were to me so I went searching for a big bac window '55.2 but now I kinda like the small window because they look vintage, old timey.

Anyway, I too will dark tint my back window because it get HOT in the cab AND to save the upholstery.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck

I have read enough here on the forum to know that I definitely will have the window tinted. Someone posted that they were on the road somewhere and it was so bad that they found a tint shop and had it tinted there. Even the small back window in a TF will let in enough sun to heat you up when you are driving eastward in the afternoon.

^^^Agree^^^

I don't want limo tint but one level lighter - and I'll hope that'll be enough without looking black.

Re: Let See Seats On Your 55-59 Truck

I opted for green tinted glass for a more traditional look. For some reason it looks darker in the picture than it actually is...
