Help with Messy Spark Plug wiring

I have a new set of Plug wire for my HEI is but they are really messy. Any recomendation on best way to route would be appreciated. Engine, 307

has old Hooker Long Tubes and that is part of the problem.

Going underneath like factory is best IMO.

I've always used the cut to fit wire kits and a seperator kit like this.

But running them underneath looks good too.

real nice the way the cheap rubber gasline runs it is in great position to come to rest on the exhaust manifold and burn your truck to the ground

Attachment 843295has old Hooker Long Tubes and that is part of the problem.

Wire looms dude...11.95 at auto zone, summit, jegs or (gack) pep boys.

!!!!! Only way to make that more deadly would be to use one of those inline filters with the glass canister.

Telling him to fix that is advice, FWIW. When it warms up under the hood that stuff is gonna get hot and limber up some.

At least reroute your fuel line over your ground cable, this way it has something to keep it from hitting the manifold.
Looks like you already had something melt on the drivers side, so PLEASE do us all a favor and get this fixed,
last thing we want to hear about is someone getting hurt or see another one of these trucks get burnt to the ground.

My truck caught on fire for this exact same reason, previous owner tried to hide the fact when I bought it, but it was pretty obvious.
He came clean after we worked out a price.
here is the motor the day i bought it, you can see where it caught fire all rubber items where melted gone. & paint was burnt off the hood






On the cables, if you don't want to make your own, buy a set from the auto-parts store for a 70's corvette,
they are long and can be routed under or around without any issues

this image shows how long the vette wires are.
Rear cables are routed under, front are routed around.
Not the best options, but it works for off the shelf wires.

well with his setup if not taken to heart and changes made he might just get bagged as in body bagged in short order is that what you are proposing??

I've had bad luck running them under the way GM did. I go over and nothing fancy,but easy and cheap. Haven't burnt a wire in seven years since I put the motor in:

Cdowns - I too used to roll my eyes and get irritated on your constant harping about the dangers of rubber fuel lines.... It drove me bonkers as it seemed like every other thread was another stern warning from you on the use and routing of rubber line....

Then I started catching myself slowly removing and / or rerouting my rubber lines away from heat sources or moving objects with all those warnings creeping out of my fuzzy memory. I also started looking at some of the burned out heaps in the local yards...Some of the older ones had some long spans of air between the stubs of metal line protruding from the pump and carb.... makes you wonder how much rubber used to fill that void.

Anyway my point is this: You wouldn't consistently warn folks if you didn't care, and that is one of the things that make this board great....keep it up.

CD Downs. Thanks for the comments on the fuel line. I will reroute and am going to get a steel braided fuel line. This truck is not being driven at this point. Just worked on.

funny you mentioned it because i felt the same way-BUT-because of the posts, I went back and checked my lines and now I'm in the process of replacing as much rubber and plastic( saddle tank lines) fuel lines as possible-Thanks Cdowns!

well i'm very glad that some are listening to my warnings// a great christmas present for me


now as far as the spark plug wires// lots of great pictures to go by /// summit jegs and speedway motors all have many options// i love the qualitry and look of the "made for you" ones

if you are on a tight budget? a cheap good way that i like // i prefer running the wires to the bacck of the head and up along the valve covers and drop them down

i hate the stock milelong ones

most heads on the backside have unused bolt holes// easy to take a piece of scrap steel or aluminium drill a couple of holes then cut to size and fit paint or polish and you have an anchor place for zip ties to hold wires in place// same thing with bolts holding valve covers in place a little piece of metal with holes discreet ziip ties and you can have a nice CHEAP tidy job in a few hours work for next to nothing
