1 ton disk brakes

hey guys i want to put disk brakes on my 62 chevy 1 ton i have been reading on it but cant find much on 1 tons. 1/2 or 3/4 i read just change a arms out. but my 1 ton has tourtion(spelling)bars and not coil springs. so do i need to change it to a 3/4 ton x member? or can i change it at the ball jounts? i got a 3/4ton i can get the x member from but will it bolt into my 1 ton?

Mike, all 60-62 trucks had the torsion bar front end, even the big trucks. Does your truck have dual wheels or single, and which do you want? If you want single wheels, then the 3/4 ton front end should bolt up to your frame. There is probably some drilling involved but it should fit. There are also adapters to bolt the later model p/s box to the early frames. I think you would be much happier and better off with the complete later front end. I don't think you will find anything to match up to the early ball joints anyway, and the ball joints and other parts for the torsion bar front end are getting hard to find and very expensive. Maybe someone else can give you some more pointers.

i wanter to go to single wheel on the front anyway. so do i need like a 63-66 3/4 ton or 73-87 frontend or what? everyone sells parts for 1/2 and 3/4 ton but 1 ton stuff is hard to find. i can live with drum brakes but i dont like torsion bars. id love to find a Ibeam front axle for it.

The complete 73-87 3/4 ton front end should bolt up. Just unbolt the old a-frames, torsion bars and crossmember, then set the 3/4 ton crossmember under it. From what I've heard there is some drilling involved to get the holes to line up, and I think the 73-87 idler arm has bigger bolts holding it to the frame. There are several places that have the adapter plate to bolt the big later model p/s box to the older frames. I've never used one myself, but I'm sure someone can tell you the best one to use.
