80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild

I found this truck on craigslist. The price was right, so it went home with me. My plans are to do a quick makeover, paint, lowering kit, wheels, interior.
The good news is that it is a rust-free, original paint, interior, unmolested truck. The only bad is a few dents and some poor spot repair. The engine runs great and even the air blows cool.

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild

I got it home and found the heater core leaking. It was a quick fix. The best part is that I get to put the kids to work!

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild

Did you remove the old heater core with the hood still attached? My heater core just started leaking yesterday and I'm going to be tearing into mine this weakend. Never replace a heater core before though and someone said you had to take the hood off. Any tips?

It really isnt that hard. You don't have to remove the hood. To get to the bolts on the bottom of the outside it helps to remove the inner fender. I have a really long extension so i used that to remove the bolts under there without removing the inner fender. Whole job took about 2 hours.

Thanks for the info! I have plenty of extensions. I don't have time to even look at it until this weekend but it didn't look like a complicated thing so that's why I was confused when they were talking about removing the hood and inner fender haha.

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild

Here is a pick of the seat. I had it done in ultra leather.

Also I was able to scavenge 2 salvage yards to find 1 complete set of interior trim pieces. I cleaned them all up and died them to match the ultra leather.

More to come!

Here is the current state of the body work. Plans are to keep the original copper, but to add white tutone in the middle.

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild

Here are 2 more pics. They are cell phone pics so not the best. I am very happy with the paint. I am picking it up from the bodyshop in the morning, then back to assembly.

I got a little bit more done. I haven't had much free time on account of my job. Unfortunately building cars is not my day job

I got all the glass back in, I have all the trim back on the driver side, excpt for the front fenders. i put the grille back in as well. I put in the flip kit in the back and I am waiting on the front spindles and springs to finish the front. Here are the best photos that I can take at 11pm at night.

Re: 80 Chevy swb Quick Rebuild

Almost forgot. I also got my finshed door panels back from the upholstry shop. I have them and the dash pad redone in ultra leather to match the seat. I will see if I can get photos of the dash pad later.
