Converting from power steering to manual
I want to get rid of the power steering on my 70. What all needs to be changed to put a manual box on one of these trucks? I've lost the power steering belt too many times and it's always at the worst time!

Honestly not much. I switched out my 87 and all I did was unbolt the power box and draglink and put the new one on. The boxes are the same from 67-87. Mine came with a draglink on it so I used it. I'm also asumming your talking about 2wd drive also.

2wd yes. Sounds easy enough! I was concerned with the rag joint side of the box. Everything is the same on that side too?

mine used to float on the top end with the power steering,was hard to control, I just cut the hoses and put a joiner in a couple clamps ,now its 100 % better and it cost me $3,for the hose joiner and clamps I kept the pump so all I have to do is replace the hoses and have ps if I decide to sell it

I see it as an either or situation. Either spend the time to convert it and regret it later on or upgrade to a serpentine belt drive and not have to worry about the belt coming off.

I had problems with throwing the power steering belt too, until I upgraded everything to March v-belt aluminum pulleys. That was over 10 years ago and I haven't thrown a belt since. Shifting at 7200+ RPM.
