Help please! How do you unlock

The factory radio with the Tech2? I went every where I could think of in that machine and I couldn't get it unlocked. I am building a crew cab Z71 and the factory radio was gone and replaced with some aftermarket unit when I bought it. I didn't really want it and it got stolen sometime from teardown to rebuild.
So I replaced the radio with the same kind [meaning RPO code was the same]and for the like of me ...... I need help please I know somebody has done this. Thanks Jim

I have used this method in the past https://www.gmpartsonline.net/blog/h...-paying-a-dime
It was many years ago. I did call the number and it is active.

Re: Help please! How do you unlock

If you have a Tech2 you can probably unlock a Delco radio by doing a theft lock relearn.

I'd get your four digit theft code and put it on a business card in your owner manual or just write the four numbers on the inside of the back cover with no explanation after you mate it using your Tech2.

This came from here --->https://www.obd2tool.com/blog/2021/0...an-auto-radio/

Connect Tech2 to the OBD port of the vehicle. When the screen of the tool illuminates, it means the tool is connected to the car. Then you can start the process:

1. Go to the main menu and select: Diagnostics.

2. Select Vehicle Identification and then run through the following options:

– Model Year

– LD Trk, MPV, Incomplete

3. At the System Selection Menu screen, select: Body

4. At the Vehicle Identification screen, select the following:

– Appropriate model

– Appropriate Air Conditioning

– Navigation Radio

5. Select: Navigation Radio.

6. Select: Special Functions.

7. Select: VIN Relearn.

8. Then you will get a message: “Do you want to clear radio theft information?”

9. To begin clearing, press the soft touch key on the top right of the scan tool. The scan tool will display “Clearing Radio Theft in Progress.”

10. Press EXIT on the scan tool and cycle the ignition.

Disconnect the Tech2 scanner from the car when finished.

This is a DrShock video. The first part shows how to do this with a Tech2. He's using his bench harness but it's the same inside the vehicle. This is for 2003-2006. The method isn't the same for 1999-2002

He also shows how to program the chip using a chip clip and a USB flash chip EPROM programmer. This method is well beyond the casual DIY.

Re: Help please! How do you unlock

This is on the earlier RDS rigs.
Eric O is using an Autel Maxsys. If the Autel will do it you can likely do it with the Tech2 and Snap on Virus.

Re: Help please! How do you unlock

I have tried many more times no luck[ or I would stop trying I guess] I go through all the step and instead of a vin relearn I get a ORR or a DRR [I cant tell the first letter] reprogram note and it says it reprograms successfully. sometimes I get to a spot and it say no communication with the aldl terminal so I dont know what that is about either. I can go the Bose amp spot in the body section and it will then say no communication so I am still at a loss. I did check the amp fuse and a radio fuse in the UBEC[ underhood fuse box]. You guys are helping I am sure and I do thank you for it. Jim

Re: Help please! How do you unlock

If it had factory BOSE sound and an aftermarket radio the PO had to do some jiggery pokery with the BOSE amp and head unit wiring to make the aftermarket system work.
Some chime replacement units can raise Cain with the class II databuss as well.
You may need to find and undo whatever they did.

Re: Help please! How do you unlock

I had a couple of plug in interface things I did remove and all the wiring is back to like it is supposed to be. I changed the shell of the cab so all of that stuff was out and in my hands. I have never had this much trouble with a radio before.

Re: Help please! How do you unlock

Have you tried extracting the six digit number from the radio using the buttons on the face and calling the 800 number for your unlock code?
