Dana 60 ratios avaliable?

Hi all,
I think I have a Dana 60 in my 71 3/4 ton (don´t have the truck home yet).
I was told from the seller it had a 4,10 ratio. I would like to get a lower (numerically) ratio, what is there to find? 3,54 or lower?
What vehicles to look for? Same years trucks, newer trucks or others like Dodge trucks with Dana 60?
Any help appreciated.

I have two dana 60s right now both w/ 4.10s one was in a 71 C20 and the other is in my 70 GMC. There are several manufacturers that make gears for the dana 60. You should have no problem getting the ratio you want. www.ring-pinion.com

Hi, I was told not to put in to high of gears or I would lose my power on takeoff. Something to consider before buying.

I guess I drive it for a while to find out what I think about the 4,10 ratio before buying something else.
Thanks.

Are all Dana 60 gearsets interchangable? There's lots of Dodge guys with Dana 60 front axles that swap gear ratios. Tons of 3.54 and 4.11 gear sets out there on the diesel websites.

I am also wondering about the interchangeability, over here the best chance to find a used gear set would be from a 73 up C20 or Dodge van/truck with 8 lug axles.

You might want to recheck your ratios as from the factory on a 2wd , the 3.54 was the only gear you could get when the 402 was ordered because of the high torque @ low rpm motor. On 4x4's the bb was not available and and the 4.10 was standard and the 4.56 was the only option available for the 6's, 307, and 350's. This is in reference to "20 series" models only.

I will check what ratio there is in the truck as soon as it arrives here. I drove it just for a short test drive when I bought so I really can´t tell anything from that.
Thanks everyone for responding.

My dana 60 3:54 is really good on highway driving. At 70 MPH it runs about 2800 RPMs

There's a 72 Cheyenne at a friends that lists a 402 BB and 4.10 ratio rear end. I looked too...and that was the option it came with. I've had 2 1970 3/4 ton GMC's that both had 350 engines and 3.54 rear gears..I still got one of rear diffs and it was rear coils on both.

The book: "Catalog of Chevy Truck ID Numbers 1946-1972" doesn´t list the 3,54 ratio at all for 1970/1971 C-20 series as a possible option, the ratios avaliable for C-20 series 1970/1971 is 4,10, 4,56, 4,57, 5,14.
For 1972 C-20 series the ratios in the option list is 3,54, 4,10, 4,56, 4,57.
These kind of books have been wrong before I guess.

Re: Dana 60 ratois avaliable?

Could it be possible to use an axle from a later 3/4 ton truck or van?
Of course, some fabricating could be neccesary. :-)
What ratios are available on later trucks or vans?
Are the thread widths much different on later models?

Re: Dana 60 ratois avaliable?

I believe 3.54 is the lowest gear ratio available for D60's.

There was a D61 found in some Dodges and Fords, that could go down to 3.07, but its an oddball axle.

Front and rear D60 gearsets interchange (with the exception of Ford "hi-pinion" and the above mentioned D61 gears). The only difference is some of the older gearsets might have a coarse splined pinion gear, so just grab the yoke if you do get used.

Re: Dana 60 ratois avaliable?

Does anyone have a list of ratios available on later 8-lug axles?
I have a feeling that later van's have ratios more suitable for highway driving.

But, will the width of a later axle fit the 67-72 trucks?

How fast can your trucks go with the BB? I have 402 turbo 400 and dana 60 and my top speed was only 75mph.Is that about the right speed for this set up?Also If any of you have an extra bracket that is bolted to the top of the rear end cover to the rubber brake line on a 3/4 dana 60 rear end ,I'll buy it?Let me know how much? Thank you. Dave

The 14 bolt is a corporate axle that was used under gm 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and vans from 73 on up til recently. it should be pretty common, even in sweden.
