I'm pretty sure that the orange wire is hot and the white wire is ground. I'm putting these on my truck right now. The door switches should splice into the white wire providing ground when the doors are openned. I scanned a pic out of a factory assembly manual. GM put a extra harness in to do this, but i'm jsut gonna use some solder. If you want the pic I scanned just let me knwo.

You are right...white is the ground, and there is supposed to be a piggy back harness for them.

Heck yeah, timed dome lights would be sweet! i have been thinking of adsding a couple lights wired with the dome light, being that the milkey white lens kills the brightness so bad.
I had tried putting one under the dash, but the light I had was worse than the factory offerings, so I need to scrounge the junk yards a little more and come up with something. Was also thinking of a couple under the seat, like in a Town Car. you'd be amazed at how much this seemingly stupid light helps find the money you dropped, or the keys you hid at teh amusement park. (can't have your keys fall out on a ride now can we?)
