Still getting them here also. I'll be back when this stops. BTW they appear to be google ads from what I am seeing. So now google is hacking to advertise?

Yessir, that is exactly what I have been seeing. And as mentioned above, they seem to be Google ads.

Re: Ads on the site

Can we thank out Friends at Google? This pops up after I X out the ad. (the picture at the bottom)

When I followed the link I ended up here;
Google is one of many ad networks that personalizes ads based on your activity online.
To control ads from other ad networks, go to AdChoices.

I opted out of them all, 155 trackers. I typically do this but they, Google I assume, will not retain my settings.

Since clearing the personalizes ads I am now getting toys and then Harbor Freight ads. Obviously I am not a fan of either.
However, the HF is closer to my interests. Will be interesting as Google hones in on my information again.

Re: Ads on the site

I use Firefox and duck duck go. I basically have everything turned to NO and or BLOCK in my privacy settings for Firefox. I get zero ads/pop-ups. I also use a FF extension uBlock orgin. Im guessing that helps too.

As far as board emails. I am subscribed to zero threads. When I find something that interests me and I want to look in on it to see whats happening, or just look back and see how to do something, I book mark that thread and title it ... 15 inch tire sizes (for instance) and I have the board book marks in a folder.

Re: Ads on the site

I'm still seeing those pesky ads.... but oddly, I just clicked on this page http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=842249 and there was no ad! Came back here to post about it and, you guessed it, got an ad.

Clicked the link I just posted to double-check it. Got an ad. Sigh.......

Re: Ads on the site

Just to let y'all know, Google ads changed up some things so now Admin has to go in and change all the settings to return the site to your normal viewing pleasure.

Please be patient as it will be fixed.

P.S. from what I've noticed, google seems to enjoy changing things up in there ad department fairly regularly

Thanks for the reminder. I grew up on that crap too. But it was either eat it or go hungry.

I think that I just vomited in my mouth.

Speaking of gross food. Remember canned tamales? Disgusting. BUT! Mix them in a pot of chili and it's magic. They really work. I stock up on them when I see them just for that reason.

Re: Ads on the site

I eat canned hot tamalies myself. Hormel brand only. They aren't the best but I found if I cover them in chili they go down a mite better. Not as good as fresh made but makes them tolerable.

Re: Ads on the site

Did not read the replied, however I did touch base with staff the other day about this. Google “helped” us as they do from time to time. They turned on something then told us. Josh will fix it as soon as he has a minute. In the past 4 days we have had to put our sr dog down, convert a family members care to hospice and one of our adult kids broke out a front window in the house accidentally (turned out to be some custom stupid crap too. I am not above zelke donations if anyones feeling rich )

Anyway he spent 3 hours working on the site issue when all hell broke loose at home. That afternoon google did its thing.

Thanks for the heads up. If it was answered already sorry!

You may be logged into a "google based" account (like you tube or your gmail) and that will allow the ads to still push thru, regardless of the browser.

I have been using Chrome (which I guess is Google?) for quite a long time, and only started seeing these ads about when this thread started, so only a few days or so.

Prior to that, no ads for me on Chrome.

How can I determine if I'm logged into a Google based account?

I have no idea about that kind of stuff. I just know that when Im on this site I have none of the problems a lot of folks are having.

When I view youtube I get no ads either, I get sort of a null thing, Im assuming the ads maybe arent blocked, but dont show. The video starts after that null pause.

I dont have a gmail account. I use outlook sort of. I have a duck duck email account that filters everything. So its attached to my outlook. If I sign up for something and it needs an email I type in my duck email ... Something@duck.com and all my email is filtered before it hits my outlook. It tells me at the top of the email everything it filters out, trackers and such.

Re: Ads on the site

ok i know ad revenue helps the site. but I am a paid member and they get more from my membership than the 0.002 cent ad revenue would ever generate.

if you are using firefox browser (you should) or even chrome (very insecure browser) you can use an add-in called ad block pro (ABP) and i also add in U Block Origin and Facebook Container.

you tube ads got you down? you will never see another with this setup. pop up/pop under/redirects? never ever again.

I DID recently have a problem where the page would load blank and there would be a text box at the bottom trying to load a rover.ebay ad, it would boot me and say the page was unavailable for a few min. but ever since sunday never has happened again.

more firefox tips: set it to clear cache and history when you exit. yes you have to log in every visit, but I just browse till i have something to add anyway. doing this keeps cross tracking cookies from building your profile and targeting you with ads. and Facebook Container keeps facebook in its own closed "room", with no windows. I have started using container tabs for banking and amazon too.

happy browsing!

Thanks for the tips. I am as dumb as a stump about all things computer (and other things, just ask my wife). And my memory is not getting any better. I used to be on Firefox and cannot for the life of me remember why I switched to Chrome. There must have been a compelling reason though.... I never do things on a whim, especially when it involves computers (did I mention I don't understand them?).

Re: Ads on the site

One bad click and Chrome is installed and the default browser!
I save cookies but in the future I am going to "clear cookies" every time I close my browser.
BTW, I use Mozilla/Firefox and still have the bottom pop up.

I added "uBlock Origin by Raymond Hill", an Firefox ad blocker.
The ad is gone, maybe never to return?

Below is a screen capture of the ad, maybe it's attempting to tell me something.

Re: Ads on the site

Interesting read, I have had zero issues at all with pop ups or similar ads. I tried to log in last week when the site was down but that’s all I’ve seen of this whole thing. I’m using safari in the original desktop style website format on my IPhone and the site is 100% normal.

FWIU Iphone does not support the format that most popup adds use. That is the main reason people do not see them on apple devices.
