CPP engine mount perches question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I went to install my CPP 6372MP-SM perches today, but I am not sure where to mount them and the directions that came with them are useless.

On the passenger side, there are 3 holes in the frame (stock perch was bolted to the rear two holes). But on the driver side, there are only the 2 rear holes.

So my question is, do they mount in the rear holes and then I have to drill the lower holes in the crossmember? Or do they mount in the forward holes and then I have to drill a 3rd hole in the frame on the drivers side?

Thanks! So you used the forward holes. Did you have to drill a hole in your frame on the driver side?

Should be 3 holes on each side on top rail.

Hole on crossmember is to the rear only. If your putting in front two holes of frame rail, you will need to drill.

Thanks Clyde, however mine only has 2 holes on the drivers side. Also, when I put the perch in the front 2 holes of the frame rail, the bottom mount aligns perfectly with this hole:

I can not remember if I drilled any holes. Its been a few years. Enjoy your build.

If you have any plans (or the possibility) that you might later install the no limit rack and pinion steering kit, use the rear holes. I had to drill a couple holes to do so on my 70 but can't remember if they were on the frame rail or crossmember.

They say the handling is improved by moving the weight of the drivetrain back, even just an inch, but I am doubtful you could notice it on one of these old trucks.

Thanks all. Yeah, so if I use the front 2 holes, I will only need to drill one hole on the driver side frame rail and would then be done.

If I use the rear 2 holes, I will need to drill 2 new holes in the crossmember.

I am fine going either way, just don't know if there is a "correct" way...
