Mike's 2wd 1971 Blazer - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I tried to find a factory 2wd drive for two years or more! Looked at a couple in this part of the country and found a lot of rust in both. Couldn't afford the eBay ones... In my daily national searches I found this one in Sacramento, CA. The owner was a great guy and honest about the truck. An auto appraisal company performed a thorough inspection and I received a thirty page booklet with color photographs of all areas on the truck. Got it home and it was just as described, completely rust free, all factory sheet metal, perfect rocker panels and boxes. The blue primer/guide coat is how I got it. Spent all of last fall,winter and spring tearing it down and restoring. It already had a 454/400TH drive train in it when I got it. Ran pretty good but freshened it up. Put on a polished intake, carb, ceramic coated headers, new exhaust, valve covers and a few other things. It is lowered with a static drop, spindles, springs, rear shock relocators and a boxed frame c-notch, custom modified trailing arm crossmember (exhaust passes through it). It now has 4 wheel disc brakes, wheels are Showwheel streeters 18x8 front 20x10 rear. It now painted Chevy victory red. Side marker lights shaved, rear roll pan installed and fuel filler relocated. The bed and floor pans were stripped and coated with POR paint and spray on bed liner before installing the interior. Tan leather interior, front seats are from a 06 impala, factory rear seat custom lowered brackets. I made the door panels and rear bed panels. Did my own french seam dash but I sent the console off to Conner Sweet (member) and it looks awesome!! Custom autosound stereo with kenwood speakers and a small amp. Still have a few minor things to do but I was able to get out to a few late summer shows and roll around with kids. Considering an LS2 and maybe air ride????? Bigbluthng, Thanks for the compliments! The door panels are something I made up although I did get some ideas from some on line sources. When I ordered my upholstery kit I also ordered enough Ultraleather fabric to make up the side panels, door panels, console and dash pad. I purchased some landau top and trim adhesive, water proof upholstery board and foam for a supplier here in town. I traced the factory door panels for the basic design and to mark where the factory plastic retainers should be. It was a bit time consuming but not too hard. The overall design is something I came up with. I was trying to keep a some what straight line design. The kinda arrow/rocket design down the middle was inspired from the mid 60's C10 body trim. Layered up all the pieces and shot the glue to it. The Ultraleather is really easy to get to conform to shapes. I added the lower billet trim to act as a rub rail but also tie in the look of the billet handles. There is a good video at haganauto.com on how to make street rod door panels. Believe me, they are not perfect but serve well for a low budget build. Look at some of Conner Sweet's work on the site, he does some awesome work and I would highly recommend him!

Tom Vogel, thank you as well! The 6x9's sound pretty decent. I also put some foam covers over the back of them. Overall I skimped on the sound system but I'm probably get too old to run around with a loud system anyway. I like listening to the V8 as well!

Wow Mike....beautiful. Wish mine was half as nice. Imagine people's faces when we park side by side some day.....The beauty (yours) and her ugly step sister (mine).....lol. Tell me about those bed rail covers, I want a set!! Doubt I'll ever get to a frame off on mine, it'll probably become my step sons first driver in 2 years and I don't have the space/resources for that big of build anyway.......maybe on the next project.
