Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread

Funny, I put everything back to the original, to mount the chains.
Good progress.

I have decided to put in a latch into the tailgate and so no chains are going to be needed, so need to fill them in to make it look right when finished.

]ust thinking, when you get roof welded on be sure and check condition of drains. Almost easy to not even notice them and with your replacement of your drip rails it easy to over look. That the cause of your rust in edges of a pillars and over windshield area. Roof water sits rust through and has access to other areas. Took pictures of mine but don稚 know how to attach.

Yeah hadnt thought about the drains and at this point Im not sure where they were, so if you do have pictures would be good to see where they were on yours, we still have yet to put sealer in the drip rail

Even though it isn't finished yet, I like that fuel fill door idea a lot

Re: 65Custom Build Thread

One of the issues we are running into is the fuel fill is going to have to be a 1.5" fill and to get the hose run we will have to have the flexible fuel hose. Also it will have to go through the rear bed cross member so we will have to cut a notch or hole to connect to the tank

Re: 65Custom Build Thread

A little update making some progress, fuel door a little further along, reshaped the the wheel well lip it was pretty beat up on both sides, re-welded the inner braces, top of the driver bed side needs to pushed back flat it is some how rolled up a little didn't notice that till we started working on it. Still need a patch at the top of bed side near the fuel door, looks like some one cut it for a piece of plywood to use a tailgate best I can tell both side of the bed have the same cuts, reset the drivers side and started working on the passenger bed side.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread

Test fitted the fuel tank, a before pic of the passenger side wheel well lip and an after of the Driver side wheel well lip, both were a bit rough and how we mounted the fuel door hinge.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread

Mount of the catch side of the latch, the tailgate catch and links are made from two different sets of links one to get the right length on the links and the other for the mount, another plate is installed behind the catch to shift the catch and links towards the tailgate to make sure everything clears hopefully doesn't bind or pinch or chip paint when finished,
temporary hole cut for the latch handle

Re: 65Custom Build Thread

Any thoughts on how these wheels look to everyone? I was hoping when I purchased these they would look a little more traditional with the front side spacing being inset more as far as the spoke location but they were not and now I see it is mainly due to how the wheel is made best i can determine, anyway let me know what you all think of these, Im thinking they may be replaced and something more traditional looking coming, to me they look like they belong on a late 80's to 90's model
I will say I think look ok here but not really the look I was shooting for and I think it would give a modern look to the truck, if I was doing more mods like flush glass, one piece side windows and smoothed dood handles etc they might look good with it.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread

Those wheels aren't my faves either. But bear in mind that I went about as far the other way as you can go, 15x8 steelies with chrome hubcaps. So I may not be a good judge.

The rims to me look like ones on my 2014 grand cherokee where they are biased towards the outside of the wheels for brakes and suspension clearance, I didnt know they would be made this way when they were ordered but I also feared it was a possibility due to the backspacing and the fear came true

these are two piece wheels but not made in a standard way where the center is placed in a hoop and then welded these seem that they are machined from a blank with limited spacing depending on the depth and then welded on to the hoop to make up the width

Looking good. Will you be rewelding the seam on the tailgate?

Yes to do it right you really have to weld that up, since once it is cut you can move the bracket everything is mounted to so without the welds they would be a little lose
