I got the red seat when this 64 was parted out, factory red truck.

I never got a pic of the interior, so I don't remember if it had an armrest.
it did have the chrome dash knobs

The rules for the red seat: If the custom comfort seat was optioned, seat would be red for trucks with exterior color white, red or gray.All other colors, the custom comfort seat would be fawn (aka beige). Rules are indentical for '62 thru '65 trucks. ('63 custom comfort seat shown.).

That's weird. I have a scan of the original of that publicity photo from GM and the seat in mine is clearly a fawn GMC seat with the white band a the top. I think your photo was doctored. For what reason, I have no idea.

the seat in yours looks like the other gmc pics I have seen for the 62 (pattern)

that photo I have is just one I saved off an ebay listing.

I wonder if gm cropped and updated the photo for 63?

Yes, the photo was clearly doctored. Reason, apparently that same photo was used for the Canadian GMC market, note no V6 emblem, which leads to the conclusion Canadian GMC's used a Chevy seat. An interesting side note, '62-'64 American GMC's with the "Custom" option had 4 color cooridinated seats, green, blue, dark blue and fawn, but not red.

Interesting stuff Factorystock , I had a 1965 GMC Short fleetside custom , body was white with the green fabric seat. Still have the seat. The 65 GMC data book , I cannot find anything about seat colors but in paint regulations it states a green paint and a green textured paint that I believe was used on the top of the dash that I have seen in other trucks. This truck was all OG paint and fawn interior paint but the green seat. Love to see those other colors you mention or see what the DATA books or literature say on the other colors of seats ? Also what exterior colors came with these other interior colors.

A source for the material may be SMS upholstery out of Oregon. They can be slow depending upon whether they have it in stock or not.

Bringing this one back up. Picked this seat back up a couple of months ago at a junkyard. Bottom was toast. I contacted SMS and they have the original material. $95.00/yard.

Resurrecting a dead thread with a still unanswered question.
That question being: For the years 62-65, were ALL Custom Comfort equipped trucks featuring exterior colors of grey, white, or red trimmed with the red vinyl?
Or, was it possible to opt out of the red, and get typical fawn colored CC seat in a truck painted one of those three colors?

Curtice Johnson has an identical truck to mine. Interestingly his TRIM code and mine differ in that mine is RPO Z62 RT and his is RPO Z62 RM. Not built at the same factory. According to this literature Z52 was optional Full Foam Seat and could be ordered separate. If I'm also reading correctly you could get an all vinyl full foam seat.

I know you are talking 62-66 so just a note. my 61 has the custom comfort option and the seat was a standard one but had cloth (black and gray) cover.

Well, this one is only an hour+ away and it's $3950. But it comes with a 65 C20 BBW attached to it
If it still had its original engine, I would have already bought it.

These are the type of threads us purists love, IMO, history is more interesting than the present, in other words, the way they were vs. the way most are now. The "all vinyl " full foam seat was optional in standard cabs and Z62 custom comfort trucks, but it would be a rare option in a Z 62 custom comfort truck, most all Z 62's seem to have came with the "cloth and vinyl full foam" seats. Kind of a side note, these original upholstery seats are very valuable to a person reproducing an original seat cover. To this day, I find it hard to believe you can't buy a accurate duplicate of the original seat cover for these trucks all ready made. There was a vendor on this site that proposed a cover, but to my knowledge has not come thru yet. All you have to do is purchase a worn original seat and copy and sell, right?

factorystock The original cloth is not made. SMS has run out of 66 style cloth(not sure of other yrs?). Thats what I had done when I bought my material from them. Just had a local guy cut my original cover and copy it.

Someone has played inside of this truck but did not paint the glove box door correctly. Conversed with the owner awhile a go. He bought it to resell.

There is a truck for sale on facebook market place with a red seat right now. Its a 62 C40. I posted the link in the craigslist thread if anyone is interested. Its not mine and I dont know the seller.

Can anyone let me know the difference in the support springs for this option? In my mind that is what is important. Foam and upholstery can be duplicated. It seems that at least the bottom would have a different spring set. That way you could tell if it was a fake recover from the mid 70's vs original.
Does the post by Aerotruk63 show the real difference?
