Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

Well the floor is almost all fixed up and I got the passenger cowl replaced. While the cowl was off I cleaned up behind and sprayed rust converter, the stuff works great. Once I get the drivers done I'll spray epoxy again then on to body filler. Oh and all the holes in the fire wall are welded up.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

Lower50’s, will you be doing a detailed “recipe” at some point for that build? If it’s a success and performs well (which I’m sure will be the case), that compact powerplant could be a really good option for these old trucks of ours, especially the pre-50’s models with more limited under hood space. I’m only 2 hours north of you, so I may well see your truck at a show someday!

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

The drivers side cowl is all fixed up, new kick, inner brace, and outer. Sprayed rust converter and primer/paint inside cowl. Also got the floor almost finished up with the trans hump installed. The trans hump is from a '67-'72 chev truck with the high hump, a bit of massaging and it looks like it is made to go there. I added nut certs to use the covers holes.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

I got the steering column and brake peddle/booster mounted in. I'm using a peddle and column from a '80's chev truck and the booster from the s-10. All mounted up the same as my other GMC that has been working great. The carpet arrived and lays in very nice. Carpet is from a 67-72 chev truck to match the trans hump. Needs a bit of trimming when I get to that stage.

Great idea about getting the carpet to match the hump. That's what I was stressing about and why I plan to paint mine and bolt it on over the carpet. I do like your solution tho.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

Lower50’s, when I asked about a “build recipe”, I was interested in how you got this engine into a truck and then got it running so quickly (I saw your Youtube test fire-nice!!!!). Your thread started off with your plans to run a TDI, and then all of the sudden there it was, installed and running by magic! How tough was this to do, and what did you need to buy? Did you fab up your own mounts? Does that engine use a computer? Did you have to buy expensive adapters? So many questions! Keep posting, we want pics and details!

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

I put the cab back on the frame and prepped the inside for Lizard skin insulation. I have used this stuff before and it works very good. So on Sunday I sprayed and today I took the masking off. I learnt last time to mask everything you don't want it on because it splatters out of the gun quite a bit.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

Got the fuel tank back from the Rad shop that I had clean it out and check for leaks. Before I sent it in I added the return at the top of the tank with a tube that goes 3/4 of the way down. Then I painted it the color that the inside is going, platinum gray.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

Have you ever tried this stuff? FlexSeal

I have not used it, but it looks like it might be a good for inside doors, cab corners, and the firewall for heat and noise insulation.

did you use the heat or sound? i just picked up a gallon of each, has great reviews but i've not really seen a lot of ppl using it. my thought was to use the thermal under the cab to keep heat from ever getting to the metal, then the sound inside to keep things quite.

Great work. Keep it up and we'll keep watching.

Be sure to post mileage when you get going. The incredible MPG with our 2012 Passat SEL was about the only thing i liked about it. Darn near 60 MPG on first cross country trip!!!! Still wonder where it is after VW literally forced us to sell it back.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

when i was building my 02 WV Golf TDI, i found a junkyard in The Netherlands (yes, in Europe) that was really good. it was cheaper for me to buy a complete 5spd transmission swap kit from him and ship it over-seas than buy anything local. i also ended up buying a complete custom tuned ECU shipped cheaper than anyone in the US would tune mine. had him send me the bigger AFN injectors with it. just his tune and injectors made that car super fun.

http://www.dutchautoparts.com/index.php

i always worked with Franz, great dude. TONS of great feedback from everyone who uses them. but they can be slow to reply and respond, gotta have patients.
