Re: The 1960 - 1966 Member Introductions

Hi,

I am new to the site. It is starting to get cold so I just picked up a 65 GMC SWB truck as my winter vehicle. When it is not raining or above 40 degrees I am usually on my motorcycle.

The truck has a 350 bored .30 over with a TH350 tranny. I gotta say, I am loving this truck. I drive it now but I have some short and long term plans.... It has manual steering and manual drum brakes. I plan to fix that very soon. I found a craigslist deal for a complete power steering setup out of a 72 Chevy. Picking it up tomorrow. I also managed to score a power booster/MC/prop valve which should come in handy when I eventually get new spindles/disks on front. Did I mention that I'm loving this truck?

John

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Member Introductions

Hello;
My name is Tommy. I started with a 64' SBW (i changed the cab to a 65 BBW) and ended up with a Johnny Cash truck, built with multiple yr models, 64, 65, 67, 72, 76, 88, 89, and 06. I think it is turning out pretty nice. I have changed every bushing washer bolt etc.... on her. My wife name my truck Sally, as I spend so much time with her it has to be a women's name. I have done all the work myself, minus the engine and the actual paint. I have never built any car or truck, but have always wanted too. My uncle had one, 1965 BBW short bed step side when I was a kid, and I loved that truck! So I found this one and 3yrs later here she is;
Sally....

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Member Introductions

My name is Don and i live in North Idaho. I have been on here for a few months. I'm now addicted to these trucks. A co woorker I worked with in Boise about 10 years ago had a 60 something short bed and I loved it. I looked for one for years and the stars aligned when i got this one. I love it and will keep it forever! I would like to find a 4x4 panel someday.

I finally sold my riced out Honda about two weeks ago, got pre-approved for a little loan and started shopping. There are always tons of 60-66 chevys for sale on Craigslist here but didn't find any I liked here in town. So after looking at classifieds in my neighboring state Arizona, I found the perfect 65. She drove back great All 7 hours. Good bonding time

My new daily driver and project. The bed is a little weird. Can't figure out why they shortened the bed the way they did but I'm okay with it. Rebuilt 350, T-5 5speed and 273 posi from an 1988 Z28. Headman headers, Flowmasters. Power steering, power disk brakes. Frame has been sanded, sealed and painted. All new bushings and seals in the rearend. New Battery and all new wiring under the hood. And the gas tank has been placed under the bed.

I think I want to bag it. But we'll see how things change.

That is strange. Looks like they went for ashort bed but took all the meat out of the back instead of both sections. You could fix it by getting another long bed and cutting it correctly. I can't remember how much out of each section but if the frame is already shortened the hard work is done. Or maybe it was a short bed already and they could find a new bed or something.

Names Ben. Bought my 61 in 86 rolled it in 88 and now it only comes out once in a while. My son is 13 and we are building him a 70 lwb. He and the wife think it's only a matter of bolting a few things together and it's done. I know you are never really done with your projects, there is always something more you can do to it!
