Pulling engine with no heads ?

Do you think this will be a good way to pull my 350 out, no heads and tranny is staying in. I,m probably over thinking this but was wondering if the bolts would have some stress on the block threads. Will be clamped tight to block with a rubber pad so as not to mar the block surface. Pick up points will be one in front left as pictured and other over on right rear. Those are some bumper brackets I had and they looked nice and sturdy. All my life I,ve never pulled a engine with no heads on.

I’d have strung a couple ratchet straps around the front and back and had it out by now!

Even so, a couple straps eliminate the possibility of pulling or damaging any threads.

If you run the bolts in more than a couple of threads you'll be good. give it about 6-7 turns. Not going to hurt a thing 7/16 coarse thread bolt, with a washer

Sorry ,I thought you were implying I was taking too long as your reply was in the past tense. I,m just taking my time. Have to get ready for winter as I,m sure you do to .

That is not my preferred method but I have done it more than once. Think about this. They make a bracket that bolts to the carb mount for pulling an entire motor. That's 4 small carb studs that are generally in aluminium.

If it really bothers you lift it with a sling from the motor mount brackets and another run back to stabilize horizontally.

I think I will do the sling. I forgot I bought a bunch on sale long time ago and are sitting in a bag somewhere. I would be really pissed if I wrecked a thread as the chain is pulling sideways and not straight up and down .

Don't forget to check the straps rating. Alot of chepo ones are only around 600lbs and I can't tell you how many times I have seen the front of a vehicle get lifted when a bolt was missed or something held the drivetrain down.

I don,t know the rating, but I,m going to use more than 2, just double em up or just use the whole bag lol

When you torque a head bolt it puts several thousand pounds of tension into the bolt and threads. Hanging a 350# engine from the threads will not cause damage.

It’ll be fine I promise. This is how I move them around once the heads are off.

I pull them with a transmission bolt fully threaded and a water pump bolt fully threaded
