Re: Project OverKill

I have time to kick it around the color, I do appreciate everyone's opinions.

Ok most of the filler work is done. Lots of sanding block work. Next to recoat with two coat of SPI white epoxy and then fine sand with 320 and 600.

Re: Project OverKill

Thanks again guys. I have to say I have nothing but the utmost in respect for anyone who does filler/primer/sanding and all the paint prep work. I will get it flat and smooth, but man o man is takes alot of work and patience.

It gets easier as you go. There are different methods, I just tried different ones until I found the best that worked for me. Looks good from here!

Oh how I love the smell of bondo in the morning!

Though it is rewarding to know how to do it and admire the finished product, body work sucks and it doesn't get easier!

Looks like you're doing a good job!

Re: Project OverKill

Bondo in the morning...ahhhh wonderful!!!

So shot another coat of epoxy last night before I went home. 320 wet sanded today lightly skimming the low spots. Just about got it done.

Re: Project OverKill

Black always looks great as long as it is clean! That is the short time between setting the hose down and picking up the lint free towel

Stay with the two tone orange and white!

Re: Project OverKill

OK...SPI Orange and White, done deal...decision made. Spent a lil' time today with Mr. Miller talking about the price of gas....He said "Weld the hole shut"....so I done it! And seeing how I was standing right there and there was a few pin holes showing some rust....ahhhh... well, you get the picture.
New Rock-a-Fellas! Gonna seal them all up so nothing can get into the inside. The originals are all full of dirt.

Re: Project OverKill

Drivers side outer rocker is now off. I decided that I will weld in new cab corners while I am at it. There is torn metal in the lower back of the cab corners...easier to just weld on a new set.

Not telling you what to do or how to do it. But I would re-install the doors and check the gaps prior to welding in the rockers.

Hey...I don't mind a GOOD tip from anyone, fact is I appreciate it!!! Great Idea!!! I will FOR SURE put the doors back on for fitment!!! This is the kind of stuff my painter DIDN'T do when he was painting my 71'! I'll weld in the new cab corners first...then hang the doors and then install the rockers.

Re: Project OverKill

Another trick (this came from someone on this board, but I can't rember who), after you have your doors lined up, drill 2 3/16 " holes in your hinges to use as reference marks when you re-install the doors and hinges.

they used that technique on that MUSCLE CAR show then used a small drill bit to line them up on install. Works on all body panels that are adjustable.... I am so jealous of that cab that you have though....
