Is this a dumb idea ?

Hello! New here and need some input. Found a 1950 GMC and have been think of doing a S10 swap. The problem is the S10 I have is my old roadrace truck. Did ok with it but it is a brick through the air over 90mph. I was always having to make it all up in the turns. And she can turn with the best! But her days are at a close and maybe a swap to the GMC would give her new life?

She is lowered, about 4" front and about the same in the rear+-. Sway bars front and rear. Disk all around. Rachet locker in the rear end. (this would need to be changed). Motor is a IronDuke 4. Compression for the street is to high 12 to 1+. Makes 135hp at the rear wheels. I may go to a GTP 3800SC? 5 speed T5 trans. Short bed. Would need to add 8" +-.

So,thanks for the input and help!

Re: Is this a dumb idea ?

All those chassis mods would definatley put you ahead of the game. Is it going to be a daily driver? Seems like a milder motor would be in order.

Perhaps if you give us a better idea of the end result you think you would be most happy with we could give you some better advice. Just my 2 cents worth.

BTW So glad you joined the forum.

Re: Is this a dumb idea ?

Thanks!

She will be a daily driver.Wife will be doing most of the driving.
Just lowered, no bags.
As for selling, don't seem to be able to find a person with the money. Just can't bring myself to sell at what pepole offer. Its not junk! Just older.
As for the motor I always wanted to try the 3800 SC. Cool thing is the trans will bold up.

I would say go for it. You know what shape everything is in and it beats spending more $ on something else or giving your truck away for next to nothing (as the offers I have had lately have been).

Re: Is this a dumb idea ?

Sounds great to me, already owned parts is good. A v6 or v8 milder motor maybe in order. Hipo motors need additional maintainance.

B85, I think it sounds like a great idea. I know what you mean about selling things. Everyone wants everything for nothing. Sounds like you have a great start. You could even use your short chassis and just shorten the bed, splash aprons and running boards. I have seen a couple done that way and they look good too.

This is a no brainer. Now get to work getting that brick off of that nice chassis.

Re: Is this a dumb idea ?

I would like to thank all of you for your input!
I just got off the phone with a guy that wants the S10 as it is! Go figure?
Get this he saw it on youtube. Funny world.

This will slow me down a little but ???? You see I have this 1985 Jimmy with a 3.4 / R700 ??? What do you think about using the Jimmy chassis?

Re: Is this a dumb idea ?

It has been done with a 4x4 blazer here on the board just a little more work. If I had it sitting in my drive I would use it.
