I'll actually coat them. I do powder coating and ceramic coating for exhaust as my livin. The 69020 headers are $287. from Summit Racing. Not sure about where you live but if I was to shoot shortie or mid length headers they would be 200 for the pair.

Re: A header question with a twist

Well, I did a test-fit of the Hedman #62010 headers and they fit very well! Plenty of frame clearance, and no mods needed to my A/C and power steering brackets. I can even run my existing plug wires and right angle boots.

The passenger side collector is very close the the plastic torque dust converter cover, but I'll trim that, and maybe take a rasp to that corner of the trans.

Drivers side collector is centered between oil filter and frame, about 3/4" from both. Wish they would have run the tubes down another 2 inches, but it's no big deal.

I also have to say the welds are first rate, and put to shame others I've seen.

Last photo shows how the #1 tube clears the stock PS pump bracket. The power steering hose is not as close to the tube as it looks.

Nice!! My passenger side collector flange comes close to the transmission like that as well. It doesn't touch though, so I'm content.

Hey PJ, thanks for your recommendation earlier in this thread!

Not a lot of these in use. Summit Racing shows only two reviews.

Re: A header question with a twist

You're welcome! I hope they work out for you. The Doug's headers with the custom transmission cross member look like a nice solution for getting more ground clearance. I haven't hit my exhaust on anything yet, but I do take it easy over speed bumps. I had some off-brand full-length headers on my truck previously, and I hit them on speed bumps a few times, even when going slow.

Yes, I assume the Doug's would have worked with a custom crossmember. I returned the complete set to Summit, but I still have a driver side header that Doug's sent to replace the first one that had a poor weld. I'm waiting for them to send me a return shipping label. Or heck, they can send just another passenger side header!

You live in Auburn, CA? My wife's mom and dad retired to Grass Valley where we spent many weekends away from San Jose. I met some guys in Nevada City and rode dirt bikes with them several times/month in the forest up there. Beautiful country! We absolutely loved CA back in the 70s.

Yep, we are in Auburn, CA. Moved here to be close to the network of mountain biking trails in the American River canyon. Grass Valley is a nice area. There are some trails up near there that I ride occasionally. A machine shop in Grass Valley did the machine work for me on an engine I rebuilt last year. We will likely leave CA in a few years. Not sure where we will go.
