Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go

Got the Engine painted and mocked up. Engine cross member/ engine mounts from Pacific Fabrication worked great. Easy to install and adjust. Had minor clearance issues with the shifter on the driver's side. Had no issues with oil pan clearance but will still lift truck 3" as recommended. Going to take coupler from AA to machine shop tomorrow to get it cut in order to get the transfer case attached to the tranny.
NEED HELP on fuel cell set up. Post what you have!!

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go

I got the coupler cut and am in the process of mocking up the engine transmission and transfer case. I have found the original transmission shifter will not work, obviously, and am needing help trying to come up with a solution. I want to keep the shifter in the steering column and avoid having to install a floor shifter. I appreciate any possible solutions you might have.

What application were the headers for? Do you have a part number for them?

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go

The headers are going into my 72 K5 with a 5.3 4L60E. The headers are made by Doug Thorley and their part number is 324Y-C. I purchased them through Summit Racing.

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go

Ordered and received a transmission linkage from Lokar(ACA-1800) in order to use the original shifter. Also after mock up the front drive shaft does not fit properly and needs to be cut about an inch. Will take to a local guy that cuts these shafts.

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go

Just found this build again. Nice work!

It appears as though you are running a truck oil pan. Perhaps a camaro oil pan will allow the front shaft to fit without mods or lifting the blazer?

As for wheels & tires - if you are wanting to run a 33" or 35" tire, I think a 17" wheel would be the largest I would go. Otherwise the sidewall gets so short you'll have to do the lowrider creep over speed bumps (in a 4x4) so you don't smash your rims. Personally I have 35" tires on 15" wheels and it rides nice and smooth without too much "push" while cornering.

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go

@ Thor,

Thanks for the comment. Good to have you back. I grinded off a small piece off of the Pacific Fabrication Crossmember and that appears to have worked. I am still in the process of selecting the tire and wheel combination.

Cool Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go

Here is the latest pic of the engine. Working on trying to come up with a fuel delivery and return system. Post some systems that you guys have done for LS swaps on this type of blazer.

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go

I have not done an LS swap yet but I hear good things about FuelCellGuy on the board. He can make an aluminum fuel cell with in-tank pump that will fit the stock location. Then run braided line to the rail? I do know that TheAlien has done a great LS swap thread on here that is chock full of info. Hope this helps!

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go

@ y5mgisi,

I thought they were pricey at first, but once I saw them installed the doubts got lost in the ceramic coating finish!!! If you wanna play, you gotta pay.

The fuel filter arrived today. Just a few more components to order before the install!!

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go

@ VA72C10 - Thanks!

Just got a 3-3/8" Autometer gauge for the center hole of the bezel. I heard these these are quite difficult to attain. Luckily for me Putter, one of members on this board, had a new one and I purchased it from him. Putter has done custom gauge hook ups and am planning on Putter building my bezel once I acquire the rest of the gauges.

Does anyone know what ohm range the gauges are supposed to be for an LS swap?

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go

Those seats came out great!!!

Got a question for ya on the color of the top on the inside since I noticed you painted it black as well...do you like it? I'm going through this dilema right now with mine in my head...black will definiitely match better with the interior, but I don't know if I'll like the "cave" feeling so I'm considering keeping it white for a more roomier feel.

Re: 72 Blazer - Here we Go

@ tubbedII,

had it not been for the black racing stripes I painted on the hood I would have gone with the white top. I agree with you that the black gives it a "cave" look.
On a side note: I am currently having issues reinstalling the hard top. If you have close up pictures of the how the gaskets line up all around the door and hard top please post them.

I am having the windshield installed today.
