84 4x4 blazer
Ive got the opportunity to buy an 84 4x4 blazer with 70k miles on it for $2500. auto power windows....not rusty.....should i have any concerns or is this too good to be true?

Re: 84 4x4 blazer
How is it optioned? have any pics?
|
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
its an automatic, 4x4, power windows, locks, ac. No pictures.
|
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
How are you certain it is 70k and not 170k or 270k? None the less, if it is a runner and everything works, 2500 is worth looking at.

Re: 84 4x4 blazer
it lived its life down the road from me and an old man owned it. It didnt roll over 100k and go another 70...im sure of that. This may be a stupid question but were all blazers 73-87 1/2 tons or were there some 3/4 tons.
|
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
All 1/2 tons

Here is the blazer. I have read some things about a heavy duty optioned blazers. Any ideas on the specs from these? |
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
HD shocks and springs were options. My 76 has both. What was funny to me is that my blazer has 3 leafs per side up front and 6 per side out back. I parted out a 3/4 ton that had 2 leafs per side in the front and 5 per side in the back. Strange

Re: 84 4x4 blazer
I'd wonder if it was sitting...how long
check all rubber lines and tires for cracks but for 2500 a running working 4x4 grab it even more so knowing the other owner,if you trust him |
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
Hopefully I can pick it up this weekend. Is the stock transfer case the same for all Blazers or are they different? Will it be a 203 or 205?
|
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
84 would be a 208 wouldn't it? If it's a 700r4 at least, which it should be.
|
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
yeah thats right. Any thoughts on the longevity of the different t-cases?

Re: 84 4x4 blazer
Got the blazer this morning. Gas tank is leaking bad under he skid plate. Now I have to find a new one. Thusly didnt start it. The interior of this thing is nearly perfect. Dash is perfect..no cracks and only the drivers seat has any tears. Only problem that I found was that the auto windows didnt work on either side. Does it have to be running for this to work? Gave it a really good washing and had to leave it home so I could drive home.
|
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
the power windows should work with out it running
key turned back too auto windows do you mean one push and they open?don't have to hold it? |
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
no i just mean that they are power windows. The battery was completely dead and with jumper cables on they still didnt work. The locks did though. The guy I got it from and his kid said they work the last time it ran.

Re: 84 4x4 blazer
Nice score! Don't sweat the power options until you get a new tank in, get the battery charged and the truck running. A complete and clean interior is a great score, interior parts add up big and quick. Subscribing for updates.;)

Re: 84 4x4 blazer
I have had lots of good luck with all LMC parts, but am considering buying the fuel tank from classic parts. They are both in KC which is nice and close to me. Just curious if anyone has had any experiences with them or any other parts companies. LMC tank....$135......Classic Parts tank....$95. Cheaper is better right?
|
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
So far I haven't been burned by either one of them. Ask some questions and see if they're both constructed the same. I've good luck with both, but my borrowed motto is trust, but verify. ;)

Re: 84 4x4 blazer
Sounds like you got a similar deal to the one I got with my '85 Jimmy. Sounds like similar options, too. That skid plate caused the rusted tank by holding mud and debris in there which held moisture and corrosives. If you keep the skid plate, make sure you wash out between there all the time.
|
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
I believe it. We found the skid plate and it was very rusty...solid but caked in mud and rusty. Also charged the battery for two days and have come to find out it is bad, but the good news is that after charging for two days it did have enough power to slowly run the drivers window down and up which makes me feel better.

Re: 84 4x4 blazer
How do I determine what gears are in the rear end and front end?

Re: 84 4x4 blazer
I finally got a weekend back home and got to get busy working on the Blazer. This weekend I stopped by Classic Parts in KC and picked up a 31 gallon fuel tank and a set of straps. They priced matched with LMC on the straps. CP tank was $94 straps were $59. LMC had the tank at $134 and the straps at $29. I wanted to use LMC because I have always had great luck with them but they wouldnt price match and CP would. All in all I am very happy with the quality of parts at CP. Got the tank switched out in a couple hours. Could see daylight through the old one. Gave her a quick shot of ether and she fired right up after over a year and a half of not starting. Changed oil and made sure radiator was full then we pulled the top off and took a nice long ride!!!

Re: 84 4x4 blazer
Power windows worked great, a/c blows ice cold, goes down the road at 70 straight as an arrow.

Re: 84 4x4 blazer
awesome
love seeing them with out the top |
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
Sweet looking K5 looks like its in great shape from here and well taken care of can't go wrong with that! I do love the Full size Blazers and they are so awesome with the top off. Great score keep up the good work on building it. Got any other major plans for it yet?

Re: 84 4x4 blazer
3/4 ton running gear, 35's and a bad ass roof rack. My "wish" is to swap in a Duramax and an Allison tranny. But that probably wont happen anytime soon, so new running gear, a 4 inch lift and the roof rack.
|
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
when doing the 3/4ton swap don't bother with anything less than a dana 44 front or you will get very good at changing front axles and u joints with even minor 4x4ing, the 208 transfer has the best gear ratio but a fairly weak chain, with 35inch tires you'll be fine, any bigger and you will want a 205 as they are gear driven and much stronger but will also require a tranny adapter plate which adcance adapters makes to keep the 700r4. For the cost you may as well do a 6inch lift as it is virtually the same and it ensures no fender trimming or accidental off camber hitting and you can run stock length driveshafts by making a drop bracket 1inch for the tranny/transfer case and eliminating any vibration. Off Road Design makes a lot of good parts if you plan on crawling with it, revolver shackles etc. Had an 85 and plan on getting another square blazer after I'm done my build, I had mine hacked all to hell and it got put through anything and everything, with the top on and off, great trucks yours looks like a great start
|
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
Thats good to know, I thought I would have to get custom length drive shafts with a 6in lift. I plan on using d44 and a FF14 bolt. Cant wait to get started
|
Re: 84 4x4 blazer
ff14 bolts are sweet, never had and issue, I did rip the housing of a 205 in half with 44's and a big block but doing burnouts with boggers is never smart, I'm in for this build for sure
