'68 396 exhaust hanger question

Does anyone know if these exhaust hangers are correct for a '68 big block? I'm pretty sure I know the correct locations but my frame does not have all of the holes drilled that are needed for these brackets. Would a '68 big block truck use different hangers? My truck is a short bed with coil spring rear suspension.

Is your truck leaf or coil springs? The reason I ask is because the brackets pictured look exactly like a set I removed from a 72 long bed big block with coil springs. I installed them on my 72 small block truck with coil springs. No issues whatsoever all the holes were in the frame and cross member. I believe the leaf spring trucks use different brackets. Hope this helps.

Re: '68 396 exhaust hanger question

Mine is coil spring, I should have specified. My '68 frame doesn't have the holes needed for these brackets, I'm fine with drilling them as long as the brackets are correct for a '68. I'm trying to put it back to the way it would've come from the factory.

I thought about starting one but my progress has been so slow there wouldn't be many updates. Does yours have these brackets? I'd love to see some pics. I'll check out your build thread.

This is the style brackets used on 1967-71 trucks.
1968 - 71 Big Block trucks used a double set, same brackets on both sides.

From the top, the two angle support brackets rivet to the frame these are the forward support brackets, hanging from these are the rubber insulators with hanger support riveted on, around the hanger support is the pipe band or strap.

Not in the pics intermediate support bracket; there is a bracket that wrapped around the body of the muffler, Im not useing Im not going with factory size mufflers.

On the bottom this is for tail pipe support; rubber insulators, hanger supports and tail pipe strap.

Not in the pic or the small tail pipe support brackets they are riveted to my frame, " youve seen them Im sure, just a couple inches long they have a one quarter twist in them " I can get pics of them if you need but you should have them on your truck they are all the same 67 -71 Big and small blocks

Re: '68 396 exhaust hanger question

There are a full NOS set of the insulators to be had on ebay now, The 2 forward type are each sold by 2 diff guys, and another guy has 5 of the rear insulators. ( none are mine )

You have to get the hanger brackets from somone parting a truck, on the board or ebay

The muffler shop ought to replace them, unless they were crusty, rusty and had to be replaced.

Re: '68 396 exhaust hanger question

I agree but they said no. They said the rubber piece looked old so they took the bracket out and threw it away so I wouldn't lose it. I told them the truck was in bare frame, merely for mockup of exhaust in the original location.
