Vortec Serpentine Belt swap ?'s

So I finally got the set up for my serpentine set up. I have the 350 HO crate engine with vortec heads. GM Performance says to use the L31 RPO accessories from 96-98 Chevy trucks. I scored a complete set up and I was wondering if anyone has the same set-up. It looks like the p/s fittings are metric and will need to be changed, and I am hoping the a/c compressor does not interfere with the master cylinder. The alternator should not be a problem other than run the wire to the passenger side. I got a wiring diagram that shows it just uses one wire. The water pump has two nipples for the heater hoses. It looks like they are press fit. I will have to plug one with a hose/clamp ? Any input would be appreciated. I need to find my camera so I can post pics.

I have used the serpentine set up from TBI trucks because the A/C compressor is on the correct side for 72 trucks (pass). I have a Vortec setup off a take out engine, but haven't used it on a 67-72 due to this issue. Also, the A/C compressors and alternators are ALOT more expensive on the Vortec.

AS for the PS fitting, you should be able to remove the fitting out of the rear of the Vortec pump and replace it with the one out of your 72 pump.

Wideside72,
That makes sense for the a./c compressor to be on the passsenger side. I should of thought about it before, but I was going off what GM Performance published in the manual with the crate engine. Oh well I got it all fairly priced, hopefully it lasts for a while. I mainly just wanted to get rid of the v-belts because I have had to adjust a tad too many times to stop squealing. The lower alternator bracket is missing that pressed in spacer to keep it aligned. I dont have A/C anyway but the compressor is a junk one that will have a block off plate for the hoses. I replaced it for a friend and kept the old one. I will swap that over to an A/C delete eventually. I will try the fitting on the p/s pump. Thanks for the input ! I will try to post pics, I must find my camera:lol:

cparman,
Nice looking engine compartment !!! Is that the T.B.I. serpentine set-up as mentioned by wideside72? It does look nice and the alternator stays on the driver side. Did you get the 350HO with the serpentine set up or did you add it afterwards ? I think I am ready to start swapping mine tomorrow, Thanks for the pic :metal:

Here is a pic of the water pump I am talking about. I will only need the nipple on the right for my heater core, the other one will not be needed. Is there another method of plugging this other than a cheesy hose with a clamp. I believe these nipples are pressed in ?

They had a burb, it got stripped really quick! The panel you are talking about has about a million window regulators and vent windows in it ? Go back and get your stuff before I find it

When I Bought my blazer, EVERYTHING on the front of the motor was tired. One thing led to another - - - water pump started leaking, bolt broke off in the block, had been drilled before, and was not centered etc.

I bought the GM serp belt setup separate from the crate engine. The serp belt set is a clean way to go for all of us. Took a bit of work to get the lower rad hose to fit the way I wanted it to, and I swapped the P/S pressure hose fitting from the old pump to the new, and every thing else was a bolt on. I powder coated all of the pulleys before the install.
