Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

Got my bracket today , no templet but you said it wouldn’t work for a 68 K1500 4x4 anyhow.
But you did give me a link for installation dimensions , how ever I can not get the link to work ?

Centering the plate as you mentioned in the directions , can I assume just one hole in the frame ( bottom right ) will be used and the rest have to be drilled ?

I currently have no column to reference from , everything is off the frame cab and all .

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I have never installed power steering on a K series truck, That is why I do not have a template or installation instructions specific to the K series frames. Working 80hrs/7 days a week does not allow me time to do that.

I included the '63-'66 C series installation instructions and a basic reference only. It in no way is accurate as to where to place the steering box plate.

Here is the thread I sent you previously with dimensions you will need to install your power steering.

I have not received a payment for only a steering box adapter plate since 09-06-18. Did you send me a MO in the mail or did you send a PayPal payment?

Re-sent it, not sure why it didn't go through from my computer.

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

John, question for you. I’ve got the adapter plate from you a bit ago. I’m finally getting to the job and I’ve been given a gear with 3 mounting holes, it’s appeal is it’s only 2.7 to 3.0 turns lock to lock. Am I able to use this quicker ratio gear with my plate? Appears all 3 line up with 3 of 4 bolt locations. Let me know, I appreciate it very much!!

I have never seen a '68-'86 C series or a '87-'91 R series truck power steering box with only 3 mounting holes. Has the 4th one just been drilled out as is needed on everyone else's power steering adapter plates? I guess if the 3 that are there line up and the steering shaft lines as well as the pitman arm, it should work?

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I think my eyes are bleeding after reading about 17 pages of the thread. I got to about year 2012 and decided to skip to the end and see if anything ever came about with the 60-62 adapter in the 6 years since.
Also, any idea about a lower ratio (than stock) steering gear? I found a thread listed in this thread - but also from 2012 and all the links are broken.

Thanks a bunch!

Re: Power Steering Adapter Plates

I do have a power steering plate kit for the '60-'62 frames. However I still do not have installation instructions or a template specific to the '60-'62 frames. There are 3 threads here with info on installing the kit.

Sweet! Sign me up. I'll take a '61 kit.

Also, I picked up this combo generator / power steering pump yesterday. If I can get it stuffed into the crowded, driver side of my engine bay, any idea if it'll drive the steering gear?
