Confused about Motor Mount options
 

I'm confused about the motor mount options for the LS1's. Which is probably a sign I shouldn't delve into this, but I've never obeyed those signs in the past so why start now.

I guess I'm confused about the $25 adapter plates compared to the $219 ECE kit. What's the difference and which one is more "cost effective"

The LS1 I'm picking up has the original A/C compressor still with it. I'm putting this in my burb and will have to go Vintage Air at some point. I know that's another question in it's self. I'm not trying to make this look good, just want it bolted soundly to the frame.

The adapter plate allows you to bolt up a standard sbc mount to the ls block. -This works for some to use the existing mounts to mount into the chassis. I have just done this in my 71.
The other kits gives you everything to get the engine mounted to the frame using nothing from your original setup.

The only thing I have left is the original stands in my 72.

its hard to beat the cost of the adapter plates. There are a few different ones out there, with different offsets that can move the engine forward or back for clearance.

Even with newer mounts and hardware, the adapter plate setup cost me no more than $55. I didn't see a reason to spend another 150$ that could go elsewhere.

I did modify mine to set the engine back. I had to cut the front hole that would hold the upper from sbc mount bolt, to gain cleance for the AC with the factory brackets ( on the 5.3). I then ended up fipping the mounts side to side and dilling and tapping one hole for the new location of the sbc mount.

In the end, the frame mounts are in the two rear holes on upper frame flange, and the trans crossmember is in the most forward set of holes. This should push the engine back to make it sit a bit tighter to the firewall.

I used the cheaper style plates on my install with what I think are the 73 up style engine stands. I had to drill new holes for inboard mounting holes. I also moved the passenger side back to accommodate the a/c compressor. Which means I had to cut the angled portion that side adapter plate and then made a brace to use the last hole and carry the weight on the back. The reason I went with this style stand, I think they are a better design and I never liked the 72 back design (I had one break on me and the whole engine would raise up.

I had those same mounts too but I really don't care for the motor mounts on this style. (just my opinion though). My reasoning, I have a 402 in my 70. It used to eat those mounts for lunch. when they fail the whole engine raises up. Not cool;) The newer style can fail and the engine can't raise up more than the inner mount. Like I said, just my .02 cent.
You can pick up the later stands at pull-a- part cheap. Good luck.

that sounds noisy.
I really want to get a set of torque/limiting straps for me engine once I've got the procharger setup done, but I will admit they don't look nearly as cool; as they would on something with a big bds sitting up top.

I can put an intercooled D1sc on it (or use meth) and change pretty much nothing but cam and tune. If I went that big it would be engine build time. Maybe someday.

In my experience...the towers you currently have on your frame are going to cause exhaust manifold/header clearance issues. If you run stock 72 towers and adapter plates, or 73 up towers and adapter plates, or the ece kit you would be good. I've done a 72 using the stock towers and adapter plates, along with the lsx swap headers. That was the best one imo. Also done a 71 and had to cut the tower up for clearance.

The stock frame stands can fit nicely with the factory A/C on the LS using Doug Thorley headers. They were made for these trucks, so they look and fit awsome
