Replacing VSS Buffer?

Hi All,

I'm trying to get the cruise control working in my '86 Suburban and I've narrowed the culprit down to the VSS buffer not giving a signal to the cruise control module. All other components were tested and function correctly.

I know they no longer make these VSS buffer units so I've been doing some research. I see that Dakota Digital makes a pass-through signal generator that goes inline with the speedo cable at the transmission. This unit produces 8000 pulses per mile. The factory control module needs 2000 pulses per mile. Dakota Digital also makes an interface that can translate the 8000ppm to 2000ppm for the factory cruise to use as a signal.

My question is: has anyone tried this out before?

Thanks!

So the pic is the factory VSS buffer.

I want to use these two components made by DD to replace the original unit.
