89 s-10 2.5 distributor ?

I am trying to get a truck running for a friend of mine. 89 S-10 2.5. The distributor was removed. I stabbed it with #1 cyl at TDC, rotor pointing at #1 terminal. The injector will not spray fuel . If you wiggle the black/red wire into the distributor it will pulse the injector. I suspect its bad wiring/sensor inside the distributor...I will try another distributor. Also, compression is 145-150 on all cylinders... My question is : can the distributor can be installed using any terminal as #1 or is there a certain orientation of the distributor ? I really don't want to pull the timing cover to check for timing marks just yet

As long as the #1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke, you can make whatever terminal the rotor is pointing at when you drop it in number 1.

Pull the valve cover and set timing with both valves closed on #1. Super easy on this motor.

Warrens69GMC,
I will as soon as I go back over there on Friday ...its a 45 minute drive :waah:
I do have another question.. I removed the distributor..It seems there is no slot for the distributor to line up and drive the oil pump ...Is this not like the old SBC ? Or is something broken ? Thanks

Yes, it should have a flat on the bottom to drive the oil pump.
