My 72 Gmc c25 project

I bought this project a few months ago and have gotten some minor progress, but am plugging away at it slowly but surely. My plan is to put an ls motor in it and drive it daily, in the nice season ! Its a 1972 GMC C25 originally a 350 with a 4 speed, but I've already pulled and sold that setup. This is my first oldschool project and I didnt know what I was getting into when I pulled the trigger on this. LOTS and LOTS of rust ! Cab was pretty much shot, between the 2x6 custom wood rockers, and majority of panels rusted out.

Decided to go the route of buying a "better" cab from Tennessee when on vacation. Actually got my cab from Dwayne from insane hot rodz, awesome guy that does top quality work. Since then I've dug into the cab and have been repairing the typical panels. I built a wooden dolly to roll my cab around on for $30 from a pallet 2 pieces of 4x4 plywood and 2 moving dolly from harbor freight :metal:.

Started with what I think will be the hardest panels to replace which are the cab mounts. Tons of spot welds to get at it and get them off. Got them welded up and undercoated the inside to prevent future rust. I taped off the areas that will come close to welding to prevent melting and allow me to spray weld thru primer. I need to touch up the mounts a little, but this is a learning process for me. I'm not a professional by any means, just someone that is determined to tackle new things.

Just test fitting the outer floor extension. Now that the rear mount is in I am going to start on putting the new rear floor patch in and then the cab corner.

Are you lapping the inner floor piece and then gonna weld that lap joint style? I used a floor piece just like that on the last one I did, once the floor piece was in, i ran a die grinder don the seem then welded it up. Jim

With it in and screwed down like yours showed if you go down the seem it leaves a real good seem to weld. Jim

I'm planning to butt weld the piece in. I know it would be a lot less of a pain to weld it like that but I don't want moisture caught between the pieces and also don't want it visable from underneath ( not that I'll have tons of people crawling under the truck).
