Imitation hooks
 

i did it.

I feel weird, but excited all at the same time. I think I looked over my shoulder as I unboxed them in the garage.

I bought the hooks on ebay, see pics. They are not the extreme style but I believe they are a copy of the 72 slight bends? I'm not sure what the technical term is for this style. Regardless, they look nice in my opinion. They will give me the look I want, and I seriously doubt I will ever actually use them for what the originals were meant for.

I'm happy. Pictures provided in case anyone is curious.
Unfortunately, the PO made a mess of the front frame horns.

It looks like the metal mice got to your frame horns. What's the rating on the hooks?

No rating, they are for decorative purposes only - according to the ebay seller.

They are made from Ductile iron.

I assume they would bend or tear if I used them to pull on another vehicle. Ductile is weird. I deal with it at work. I sell ductile iron pipe and fittings that are used in municipal water line applications. It is a durable product, but not ideal for tow hooks.

Yeah, metal mice... or someone was drinking when they mounted this bumper. Sad face...

Isn't ductile iron twice as strong as cast iron? I thought I read that somewhere?

They make the heavy duty pintle hitches out of ductile iron. The seller/maker was severely whipped on this site. That is one reason he listed them as decorative. I have my doubt that you can break them. Done/said.

They are decorative.

seems like these are cheaper than when introduced, maybe setup costs are settled and now able to lower prices..

either way they're much more affordable, especially for a garage queen or pavement princess..

and who knows, maybe they'll pull too? my offer stands to supply the OE hooks for the contest..

I wish I could get my hands on an original set for a couple hours. I could cast these from aluminum fairly reasonable. They would be for decoration only, but I bet they would never break if they were actually used.

I have a set of oem 60-68 that I believe are way overkill for a half ton. I removed them from my 67 and now run 88-2004 oem hooks which are a cleaner look. ----- in my opinion. I also run these style hooks on my 59 GMC. Pic is front of 59.

My 60-68 hooks are in a baggy on the passenger floor of my 67 awaiting their fate.

I don't know, but I have a 12000# winch and use the hooks for my snatch block which means 24000# is possible. I won't risk my life or anyone else life because I was being scared of spending the money on the real thing. If you put "decorative" hooks on the truck, someone will try them out. I hope they work and no one gets hurt or killed.......

My hooks curl same way and as discussed on others forums the part number does not list an L or R.

I'm down, but I think it might be a bit before we get there.

Honestly, think the frame horms might give before the hooks, due to the metal mice.

I think all our frame horns would give before the hooks break. Your frame horns can be repaired.

I was 285 shipped after tax. They are on ebay, search blazer hooks and they should pop up.

Under three bills in my hand, I could rationalize that amount, but I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on 700 or 950 for an original set.

Yeah, I know, but his thing is an ice cream getter with the kids, It might see some sand, but i doubt it. Therefore I hope I will never have a use for them other than the look they present.

Yeah, same page. When I was a kid we had a wood stove for heat, so every spring we had to go and cut 10 or 12 loads of wood. It was horrible, I hated it. My old man would tell me to go stand behind a stump or a brush pile while he used the truck to pull wood out of the burn piles that were left behind in the clear cuts. He had the snatch block method for the difficult logs, but most of the time he would use the front hooks and some chain to drag them out.

It was a 1975 3/4 ton 4x4, 4sp truck. He would hammer that truck in reverse as fast and as hard as he could until it would pull whatever log he was after free. This would go on ike this for at least an hour or two while I stood in the rain, dad would be grinning the entire time. I only saw the chain break twice over the course of my childhood. Second time the chain broke, he lost the radiator. Not pleased is the phrase i would use to describe that encounter. I had a long walk while he waited with the truck. No cell phones at the time.

Right before I pressed the purchase button on these hooks, I thought of all these memories, and I heard my dad drop a F-bomb somewhere off in the distance. If I sell this Blazer, ill let the new owner in on these hooks. I understand the importance of it.

I like those ebay hooks. Are the markings on the hooks on the ebay ones related to the reproduction company, or are they copies of markings on the original hooks?
