big gas tank

looking for a bigger than stock gas tank that still fits behind the seat. I have one in my 65 dually but it came from a parts pile so I can't ID it. might be from a 67-72, not sure. all I know is it's the same as stock tanks except about 8-10 inches longer. I think it holds around 4 more gallons.

I want to order a new repro so the range of years is what I need.

thanks...

Re: big gas tank

Chevy lists an optional 21 gal tank for 60-66, I dont know what application they came in, and have never seen one to my knowledge...but they exist.

Re: big gas tank

I know with my truck there is a huge space on the passenger side that looks like a larger tank can fit there. It looks like about 5 gallons of extra space.

Re: big gas tank

yeah, i was hopeful that it was a tank from a different year and available to all who want a few more gallons of cruise juice. If i got a rare one just makes me want more...

Re: big gas tank

I may be incorrect but I thought the C-50 and up trucks were the most common to have the larger tanks.

Re: big gas tank

not sure, but I was told the trucks with 305 v6 had the bigger tanks. I have one from a 64, haven't swapped it into the 62 yet.

Re: big gas tank

Man I wish I had known. I offered up the big tank ( from filling it up it took about 20 gallons) for free .. no one took me up on it. I moved last year and tossed it. along with all of the front end parts etc.

Re: big gas tank

I've seen that same size tanks even on the inline six motor as well. I also have one on 65 gmc but if Iit was possible to to relocate it that would make me feel much safer
