Porterbuilt replacement trailing arm Xmember

Here's some pics of the version that is NOT set-up with the trailing arm tabs. This version is designed to bolt into the factory holes and has a mount for the carrier bearing. The version that employs the trailing arm tabs is almost identical. The obvious difference is that it has tabs for the trailing arms, and it's frame mounting plates are a bit longer and have more mounting holes allowing the user to adjust the location of the crossmember and center the wheels when compressed.

I have zero feedback if this crossmember will work with a one-piece drive-shaft. I designed it to meet the neeeds of those wanting to sit extremely low and NOT cut into the cab floor for driveshaft clearance, to achieve this, a two-piece drive-shaft is a must.

As I recieve more information/feedback on this product I will continue to update.

From another thread Nate says...

Availabilty will depend on my work load at the time, but worst case would be 3-5 business days until it shipped.

Keep in mind, this unit is designed to use a two-piece drive-shaft... don't think there will be enough room with a one-piece.

Re: Porterbuilt replacement trailing arm Xmember

Will this work with the "horse-shoe" style carrier bearing? If not, are the two carrier bearings interchangeable?

Also, I know that when I set up my 2 piece driveshaft, with the amount of drop I have, I had to alter the location of the carrier bearing to get the proper driveline angles. Is there adjustability in bearing placement? (in regards to vertical mounting height?) Looks like the carrier bearing could easily be shimmed, but would there be a need for it?

I fit this up with the motor and tranny installed to find the best location to weld the carrier bearing mounting tab. There is room to shim it up IF necessary.

I will have to locate the part number for this particular carrier bearing. If you could provide me with the measurements of the carrier you are referring to I would gladly check and see if it would work.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Porterbuilt replacement trailing arm Xmember

Here's the specs on the carrier bearing:

It's out of a 95 Chevy 3500 with a 454.

The Carquest part# HB88107A.

The bore is 1.378.

JLaird- I don't know if the original style bearing will work... but this one does!

So are you saying the carrier bearing from the 95 chevy will fit on my stock driveshaft?

The trailing arm version will have a little less space for the exhaust. But there will still be enough for 3" exhaust.

Read the second sentence of Nate's post. This isn't a picture book.

Nice work! Maybe you will be able to build one for a one piece driveshaft but for the 73-87 trucks. I still have plans to install trailing arms on my truck. The crossmember would be the only thing I would need to fab. After I get the C4 DP though.

Factory mounting holes! It may be necessary to open them up a little. The three factory trailing arm x-members I measured varied by as much as .125".
