No truck now,but yours resembles the '72 BBC SWB Highlander I had that was solid Ochre. Mine only had the upper trim.

Re: pics of factory 71-72 short/super/402's

my favorite 72 super swb 402 ever: Sameyrasmea's... Hands down my favorite. But, I'll let him tell you the details.

Here's the link he originally posted - http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=325467

EDIT: one note I hadn't mentioned in our previous conversations, and you may be aware - the funky a/c bracketry is because this was original a Fremont truck/subsequent registered in CA truck, and had a smog pump mounted in the empty spot there in front of the passenger side valve cover. hard to find part - or you can yank off the oddball smog pump bracketry and replace it with standard non-CA emissions bracketry for the a/c.

It was my understanding that California Big block trucks did not have a smog pump. My 72 GMC is a A/C truck with no evidence of it ever having a smog pump. My truck is also a Fremont truck. Expert Opinions appreciated.

I have a 67 Olds 442 built at Fremont and it has Smog and was delivered in California. If the car, or truck, was going to another state from California. it may or may not have had Smog installed at the assembly plant.

I have the Chilton's Repair and Tune-Up Manual for '70-'80. It says that the '72, 402 engine is Air Injection Reactor equipped, 10 Series, except California. I'm used to the California vehicles being equipped with AIR and Federal vehicles not so equipped, so take the above with a grain of salt.

As for smog equipment, the installation depends on dealer destination, no matter where assembled.

All '72 1/2 ton trucks with the 402 had smog systems. However, the '72 402-powered 1/2 ton trucks were not able to be sold in CA because they apparently could not pass the emissions.

Did Chevrolet offer the small block 400 as an option? I know they were produced from 1970-1980. I have seen then in late 70's trucks.

The small block 400 was only offered in passenger cars.
