Good news: Dad went and got truck from New Mexico, and made it back fine.
Bad news: every time he heard something knocking, he added some oil and that seemed to help it. When he got home, I checked the oil level. It was way too high. I popped the air cleaner top, and it has a lot of oil in the assembly. When the truck is running, the oil somehow makes its way up to the air cleaner assembly, leaks down, drops on the manifolds and burns. Is this hopefully just a small problem caused by the overfull oil, or is it a big problem?

I have the specs finally on the truck as well. C/10 short/fleet, 350 with 40" glasspacks (loud obviously) original 6-lug rims, body in pretty good shape, maroon paint- not original, heavy-duty rear end with a huge towing package, coil-over rear shocks, hitch, all the wires for trailer etc, trailer brakes. Inside-pioneer stereo, can't get the tape deck to work, steering wheel and seat absolutely whacked, underdash air that blows but no compressor so it it is just "fan". I have the options list too, will post that later, but I can't read some of them so if you guys could help decode that would be awesome. And the fuel guage somewhat works, however the temp and speedometer do not work. I already waxed it and shined up the paint pretty well. I will post pics when I get a scanner in the next ten years or so

1. Take case of oil from your dad. Don't let him have it back unless he knows how to read a dipstick.

2. Don't drive the truck around like this is normal.

3. Pull the engine and rebuild it. The knocking could be anything in the valve train. You may have broken a ring or too much play in a rod or something.

You're going to have to clean the carburetor anyway. That I would pull and rebuild unless you want something else. Is the engine spooging oil?

Hey it's good to see another Southern member

All in all, Dad put in 11 quarts, yes 11 I counted them twice lol. It has a little blowby already so it does burn oil, not exactly sure what spooging means, either I am too stupid or too young or something

Anyway, air filter is shot, and carb actually looks pretty good. Oh, I am going to get the compression tester and find out if it is the ring or valve that is messed up.

Sorry. I used "Spooging" as a synonym for Hemoraging or Gushing...

If it's burning oil how much? Compression will probably tell you some things, but I bet just pulling the valve covers will tell you plenty. What's the oil look like? Thick and sludgy? Jost do an oil change and watch it for the first 100 miles or so...

It doesn't burn a lot, not enough that you can see it really well, and it does leak a little. Oil looks pretty good: I was thinking of pulling a cover when oil change time comes, I guess when I get my next day off. Anybody know the number for the ACDelco oil filter for 350? And a good place to get one? Thanks.

Fram is PH13...I dunno about AC Delco.

PF1218 or PF35 are the delco numbers on the spin on oil filter. If it is a canister type filter I don't remember that filter number...But any major Auto Parts store should have it...we do at O'Reilly's... I don't know if we have a store near you though

I don't think O'Reilly's is there..only in the mid section of the states. Kinda ticked me off when i had an O'Reilly's part go bad here in Ohio and the closest one was in Illinois.

If the PVC line is blocked the internal pressure will blow oil out of almost every gasket.

Actually, it was taken care of quite a while ago. My starter went tits up almost a year ago, and even though i'm sure the headers were to blame, I feel 6 months in not enough of a life span. I had it rebuilt here at a smal local mom and pop place.
Your right, Dublin is just a 30 min drive from where I sit, I'm on the lower west side of Columbus...only about 3 miles from exit #5 on I-270. If you drive up here from Tx, you'll blast right by my exit.
Will you be driving this, or flying? If so, I might have a job for you if you are willing. (involves a longhorn bed in Killeen Tx) Not that I have the $$ at the moment, but I sure don't have the $$ to go get it myself either...as much as I would LOVE to do that road trip.
