Seats

Looking for advice. I want to remove the stock bench and replace it. I saw many people using the seats from the 89-98 type 1500 series. They seem to fit bolt and widt wise, but it seems they are about 1" to 1 1/2" higher.

Since I am over 6', I am worried that I might be crammed in too much under the wheel.

Any suggestions on what to use as a substitute?

I found a real good setup from a 92 Chevy that will fit my future paint scheme and since I can operate a sewing maching worth a crap...nor can my wife or daughter, I don't think redoing the seat my self would be very easy.

Sure wish I knew where that wife is of a guy I worked with in the 70's...She redid sevel of my cars...

Thanks Bill

I remember some members saying they had to add spacers on the 88+ GM seats because they sat too low.

I wouldnt suggest the dodge seats.. I bought a 98 dodge seat with seatbelts built in, It looks killer but i feel like a sardine inside the cab. I called the place and have a GM seat coming Monday.

Do you have a newer GM seat in there already and it seems to high? Im curious if its actually higher than stock or lower.

No the original is in the truck.. (ugly too was reupholstered by the original owner in hunters camouflouge (I can't spell). My daily driver is a 96 GMC, and I was measuring the 2 today to see if I was going to run out Monday and pickup a real nice seat from a wrecked 91-92 Chevy 1500.

My rough tape measuring could be wrong. I think I could live with it being a little lower. Might not have to fold the legs as much around the steering wheel.

Could also give more growth room for my belly.

That is something I didn't think about. I know the 92 chevy and my 96 seats are very comfortable. Like the idea of using them.

I've been out of the tinkering game awhile.

Love the wheel in your's. What brand is it?

THe flat seat may well sit kinda low, I saw one in a 74 and not only did it sit low, it looked funny.
The split one does in fact sit high, and when I would drive my old friend's truck ('69 GMC with a '92-ish seat) I would have to bend over a hair to see the stop lights, and we both bashed our heads a couple times. Also, even with a smaller than stock wheel (15 inch) our thighs we would hit the wheel.
They had to be shimmed to sit level, not to raise it. While this is not the pic of my friends truck, the seat in this burb is the exact same as what was in that 69.

seats

I put a 98 chevrolet leather seat in my 70 and the thing seemed way to big for the cab. In fact it was hitting the 4x4 shifter. I sold it and bought a 95 chevrolet cloth seat and it doesn't seem to big it fit really well. You will need the rf driver seat spaced to make it work. I also got the rear seat out of the extended cab and cut out the material and put them over the woodgrain on the 72 door panels. Almost makes it look factory.
