OK, I'm ranting, but this is the THIRD fuel float in less than 3 years that has decided it wanted to sit on the bottom of my poly Blazer tank instead of floating. Now I get to find a way to drain ~15 gals of gas, drop the tank and pull the float.

Does anyone have an alternative to the soldered brass(?) float, like maybe a plastic one, or would a cork do the job?

Try patching JB-Weld on it. We used it on a John Deere float and it worked great. Gas resistant, good stuff!!!!

when I was having my tank coated, the guy offered to dip my float as well. he said it was an easy fix. try your local rad shop that does tanks. as for draining it, I had to do it the (yuck!) old fashioned way & siphon it out. Just have a few gas cans on hand...

Just run the gas out of it. In fact, if you know what kind of mileage you get just go fill 'er up and calculate how many miles you can drive on a full tank and go drive that many. Then just drop the empty tank.

get a new float and drown that sucker with seal-all available at any hardware store
