HEI
What are some of the benefits of the HEI compard to Pertronix? Right now I'm using the Pertronix set up, it seems to work fine but I'm thinking about switching to HEI.

they work basically the same way. the only advantage i can think of is with HEI, you can find parts at any auto supply store.

The Pertronix is a pretty good upgrade, bery dependable, very inexpensive, and does the same thing as HEI, but that was a good point. You'll have to order stuff if your Pertronix goes bad...HEI, you can get at the junk yard if your hurting for cash.

I dont think you will notice a diff in how the eng runs, with either setup. You can add a hotter coil to either setup, but other than parts availabilty,I dont see an advantage(as already posted,if you burn a module you can pick it up anywhere with the HEI)......69

Most likely, the Pertronix has a more aggresive timing curve than most junkyard HEIs you will find, so it is likely that performance would decrease if you went that route. If you did install an HEI, you should get a recurve kit to bring the timing in a little sooner than stock.

Unless you want it to look original, i would go with HEI. You can pick one up at a junkyard for $30 and add some hop-up parts pretty easily. You will have to get different plug wires with HEI though.
