Re: Exterior Trim and Paint Colors

That could be a 69 - 72 bed.
Trim packages included custom comfort and appearance, custom, and custom sport truck

Re: Exterior Trim and Paint Colors

yes
You could have any of the 3 two tone paint jobs....
white cab roof on a colored truck
white cab roof and white from the belt line on down with colored inbetween
or, as seen on that bed, white/color/white/color.

Re: Exterior Trim and Paint Colors

I thought that was bad lighting.
Any color could be had, but GM would recomend certian ones.
I have seen one that was like the white/color/white color...but the white was yellow, and the color was red.
it looked like crap.

Those colors may well be original, but 99% of the ppl who would see it would say you are wrong.

Re: Exterior Trim and Paint Colors

oh I know that its not origonal inside the tail light housing its yellow, but I really like the combination, its a real real light green like you said almost white, and then the dark green. I dono if I want to go white cab and white in the middle or white cab with that light green. BUT I was just wondering if the trim and whatnot was year correct. Also what was the difference in the CST, Custom, and Cheyenne Packages?

Re: Exterior Trim and Paint Colors

I have the`71 ordering book,so it could be different.I just noticed recently that the Deluxe two-tone(your bed) was only offered with white as an accent color. The Conventional two-tone(accent color under belt-line and on top)was offered with certain other combinations. That seems to be the most diversified way to go on colors. The Standard two-tone(accent color top)was offered with other accents, too.Mostly,it was combinations of Medium Olive with Grapefruit or Dark Olive.

CST for '69. Cheyenne came later. I was led to believe there wasn't a 2-tone option for '69. Help on this one?

Do you mean the Deluxe two-tone with color on bottom/white middle/color upper/white top?You may be right. The other two were always available since`67.(top only & top/below beltline)

Re: Exterior Trim and Paint Colors

Here is longhorn Jeff's all original 69 longhorn CST Camper Special/20. (the green one) The gold one is a 70 (original paint also) that belongs to a member whom has been gone for a couple years..anyone remember PigPen? He sold this truck a few years ago after painting it, but this pic shows the original paint.

Re: Exterior Trim and Paint Colors

My 1969 Truck Data Book shows two two-tone combinations.

1. Two Tone: Solid color on body, with a white cab roof with "rear belt moulding".
2. Special Two Tone: Roof and that portion beneath the lower body side moulding in white, with the remainder being a different color.

Body paint stripe, option code RPO D89: Painted side stripes are available optionally for Series 10-30. White paint is used in all cases except with White, Yellow and Silver exteriors, where Black paint is used. (This would be in lieu of RPO B85, Custom Upper Side Mouldings).

Chevloray, I can attest that longhornJeff's green and white truck is not only original paint, but also an early 69 model. I have looked over his truck many times.

Re: Exterior Trim and Paint Colors

Is the type of two-tone indicated with a specific RPO#?I`ve never paid this any mind till now.

Re: Exterior Trim and Paint Colors

Thanks for the info. I knew about the usual white top, but wasn't sure of the full 2-tone.

Re: Exterior Trim and Paint Colors

Special-K: To answer your question, the paint code denoted whether or not it was a Conventional Two-Tone, or Special Two-Tone. For example, a black truck, like mine, has a paint code of 500. It's all one color. If it was a conventional two-tone, it would have been paint code 530. In that case, it would have had a white top and there would have been a piece of trim at the back of the cab to denote the color break.

It had been a Special Two-Tone, it would have had a paint code of 586. This would have denoted the white top, AND the white portion beneath the lower body side trim.....as on CST's and Custom Comfort and Appearance options. The part of the body above the lower trim and the cab, would have been black. No two-tones were available on white bodies, Cowl or Bus chassis'.

Olive Green, special 2-tone: 538.

BTW, there are some colors on the chart that I don't recall seeing. How about y'all???

These are 1969 colors for series 10-60:
Yellow (metallic) code 520; Dark Yellow code 519. I know I remember seeing a light yellow, which must have been code 520, but I didn't know it was metallic. The dark yellow sure looks like my school bus.

Re: Exterior Trim and Paint Colors

Thanks, now that you pointed it out,I do remember the whole variation in code for a given color according to the paint scheme.
The factory refered to metallics as poly,I know that.I don`t know of a metallic yellow ever being offered, either.
