Post Headers what to use

I was wonder ing what headers everyone is using . I want a pair that are short and dont hang low below the frame rails on y 68. Pics would be great.

I have hooker comps,& dont have any trouble with ground clearance. Sorry, no pics at this time,but they hang 2 1/4 " below the frame rails.......69 longhorn.

Super Comps here...I swear by them. They came with the GMC, but tehy'll find them selves on the Longhorn here one day.

Dean, throw those headers in the trash and buy 2-1/2 inch corvette ramhorn manifolds. it was the best investment i ever made on my truck after buying three sets of plug wires frying from those goofy headers. HEADERS R JUNK AND A PAIN IN THE ASS!!!

Keep your weres nice and neat, and you'll never burn another one again.
I agree headers can be a pain, but if you get good bolts, good flange gaskets, (I ussed manifold gaskets) and dead soft collector gaskets, your headers will never leak.

I think the headers are worth the hassel.....maybe not on your daily driver,but there is more power to be had with the long tube headers. Like longhornmail said,use good gaskets,& be carefull with routing on the wires. I like to cut & fit my wires,then they go where I want.........69

i put 2.5 inch corvette manifolds new and 2.5inch pipes and exhaust and good hi perf. mufflers on mine and i think it runs better than it did with headers. it runs cooler and real close to the same amount of horsepower as there was before . i got xtra hp from other ways to make up for it. like a good air cleaner etc. etc. i had good gaskets and good bolts and all but eventually the wires still fryed never again will i waste my money on wires frying and my motor running so hot.there r better ways to get xtra hp. like a good ignition etc, just my .02cents worth. not to mention when i wanted to work on it, burning my hands!!!!

Slammed67 -- Are those Sanderson headers model CC3? Did you find anyone who'd give you a price break?

Dandeluxe -- we can't use Corvette ram's horns if our engines are in the forward mounting position. The crossmember interferes with the header pipes.

The Sanderson QP-1000 is NOT offset on the passenger side, but the exhaust ports are a little farther back on that side (2,4,6,8) so they might clear the crossmember. I've considered using them, but am concerned about clearance with the engine mounted forward. However, the headpipe flange is probably a little higher on these than on the straight dump ram's horns.

what kind of wires are u guys running.i run taylors and have actually had em rest against the headers and not burn up.i agree that stock wires will go into meltdown near headers but a good set of wires such as taylor moroso or msd shouldnt have a problem

will those Sanderson QP-1000 fit on a 72 K10? You guys are talking about the motor being in the forward position and I'm not sure what that means...

Foward position is stock V8 location(on the 2 wd trucks). Many of us have mounted the V8 on 6 /250 stands,which makes it sit about 3 1/2" closer to the firewall.......69

I've got heddman's on my truck and got those new fancy MSD (red) wires. Well i found out that since my BB puts off mad heat it burned up a couple plugs. I bought heat shielding ($46) and now all the wires are covered so i wont be burnin them up no more (that shielding is good up to 1200 or so. Ohh the heddmans hang down like 1-2" i think below my rails on the BB. Hope that helps
