I'm back! The navy is goood...
Well, after 9 weeks of basic training, I'm back on the net. I miss my truck like crazy. I've been gone for 9 weeks. Fortunately, the nuclear power school is only about 100 miles from home! YES!

It was actaully a lot easier than I expected.. They should call it sneaker camp. We only wore boots when it rained pretty much. It was kindof fun, though. I wish I was just a little closer to home. I just finished blasting and painting the frame of my 70 swb before I left, and now I'm still too far away to work on it..

I hear ya buddy, right now I attend the Coast Guard Academy, and I can only get home every so often to work on my truck. But what I do is plan my attack when i'm here, and make money to pay for it of course

If you would have went into a aviation rating you would have come down here for school. Pensacola that is. Or if you went aircrew you would have come to my school house and I could have tought you water and land survival. We could have worked on the trucks on off time. But the nuclear program is one of the best. I wish you the best of luck at school and at sea! You will have a great time! I know I am!

So, Anchor Clanker, Airdale or Blackshoe?
My son is in the USAF, so he also is familiar with "separation anxiety". With the possiblity of desert duty, it will become a way of life, from time to time. 100 miles from your truck, huh? Best my son could do was 400 miles. Now, he's 2000 miles from our home. He has his truck at HIS home, which is in California. Just got his enlistment bonus, furnished his room and is kickin' back in his leisure time. My old Hut in VietNam didn't have any of the amenities he has. Taiwan TV wasn't the greatest either, except they dubbed-in the Chinese with subtitles and let Hoss and Little Joe speak English. You have almost all of your life ahead of you. Don't rush it, and enjoy every minute! Work on your truck, when you can. Don't forget to call your family. It will mean a lot to them.

Congratulations so far on your progress! My son is a nine-year Navy nuke, I think he's considering another 11 (years). Are you wanting sub duty or carrier? My son did a couple of tours on the George Washington.
Good luck with your remaining training... and your truck. |

Well, at this point, I think I'd rather be put on a carrier. The small crew size on a sub sounds pretty nice though. I've still got a long time to make that decision, though. Tomorrow is only my first day of class.

navy?
you want to be on the sub. the people are more like family. the chow lines are smaller and the food is better. i myself have a 70 C-10 that i am working on. i have also been on 5 different carriers, 2 subs, and 3 small boys. work on the truck when you can but make the navy fun. it really can be. good luck in you adventure.

Hey phanatic, what is your rate? 5 carriers, 2 subs, and 3 small boys. I want your job. Are you a DC?
70cst10 one piece of advice I have for you is don't let someone elses feeling about the Navy affect yours. I know it sounds stupid but I see it all the time. One bad apple can spoil the rest. It is a fun and exciting place with good bennies if you keep an open mind. Phanatic is right about the sub community though. They are a much smaller group of individuals that become a family and work better together. Which ever way you go, I wish you all the luck. Mario

I would highly recommend staff duty - if available. A bit top heavy but the hotels, rental cars & food was great! NATO headquarters was the happening place. Best of Luck. I have an employee that leaves in 6 mos. for the SEABEEs.. Lot's of fun - seen so much, yet sea duty is not much fun sometimes - just a long vacation.
