Post Rockwell T221 transfer case seals

A friend was out this weekend and helped me replace the seals on the CH465 that I am putting into my truck. I picked up a gasket kit today.

While the transfer case is out I am going to do what I can to seal it up as it is pretty leaky. Boyce Equipment can get a gasket and seal kit but the guy there said he would not recommend the kit cause it was so expensive - $95.00. He recommended I just use silicone to seal up the areas that would normally be gaskets and then to get the seals out and I should be able to match up some at a local tranny shop. The only caution was for me to make a gasket for between the tranny case and the adapter so there is enough thickness to keep from damaging the snap rings.

Has anyone put new seals in to give me a lead on the new seals?
