Which Cylinder Heads to get

I might need to get new Cylinder heads soon. I have a 327, and I am going to be driving it every day, alot on the freeway. I'd like to get a 1405, or 1406 Edl. Carb, and the intake.

Just did this!

I ordered a new set or vortecs yesterday w/roller rockers/ and Edlbrock air gap intake, but I got the Holley Avenger off road carb. I have a edlbrock performer intake and carter carb little over a year old for sale on the parts board. Looks like the vortecs will out flow most of the higher priced heads.

Remember that they require a Performer Vortec manifold and center bolt valve covers. They cost prox $450/pair from places like Scoggin-Dickey Chevrolet at www.sdpc2000.com

You can use any carb. Manifold is Edelbrock Performer Vortec #2116 for idle-5500 rpm. Performer RPM Vortec #7116 is for bigger carb, cam, lower gears, and higher rpm with a sacrifice in low speed torque. www.edelbrock.com

dart iron eagles are just a hair more than vortecs and regular sb intake manifolds are cheaper, centerbolt valve covers are way more money than regular sb, guideplates won't fit under stock vortec valve covers or at least mine wont

One other thing to note is that Vortec heads have a 64cc combustion chamber; going from the stock heads on my truck to Vortecs got me a bump in compression to 10.0:1 with thick head gaskets. So I've got to burn premium now...however, whenever I get around to rebuilding the bottom end, I'll probably both go with a 383 setup and dished pistons to bring the compression back down.

Ok,
I have a 327. I'd like to know which p/n to get as far as the heads go. Should I get new cam, rockers, etc... I don't want to go crazy, this is a daily driver that I put about 100 miles on per day. SO gas mileage is a big factor!
P.S. LED taillights availible VERY soon (within 2-3 weeks)

the last 3 digits on the heads are either 906 or 062...these are for the vortecs and since your looking for gas mileage and not big performance these would work well for you...you will end up spending over 700.00 for everything you need to do the swap. they are a nice mild performance upgrade..I myself do not like votecs(but im old) just like im not fond of the ls1 or sb2 motors..I like the old style sbc's...I like to interchange any manifold I want and the same with valve covers and rockers....etc..youir 327 probably has either 520 heads which are 60cc or camel humps which are 64cc...if your heads are the 520s you will lose a little C/R..good luck..get new head bolts and seal the threads with some arp sealant or equivilant

I bought

the head kit from SD and it came with all the gaskets intake bolts and head bolts. Everything you need to do the swap except for the carb and gasket. Those guys there at Scoggin Dickey were very helpful too.
