Buying another truck...

Well,Im buying another 4x4.I probably wont keep this because I have enough taking up space but I might keep it for later.I am basically buying it for the motor and tranny, and the transfer case.I was planning on pulling them and either parting it or keeping it for a future toy.I didnt see it but my father seen it and stopped and looked at it.It doesnt have a lift kit on it but it does have a good set of tires on rally rims.It has WARN lockouts.I dont know what I will do with it but like I said it was for the already rebuilt drivetrain so it can go in my shortbed K10 so it will be ready to go back together. It is a 73-78.I dont know which exact year half ton long bed.It has a 350 w/ some engine mods,a th350,and a new process 205 transfer case. What should I look for on this when I am inspecting it.I am a rockwell guy and havent touched a np205 so I dont know what to look for so if someone could give me things to look for anything related to the drivetrain before I buy it...

Re: Buying another truck...

The 205 is a soild gear drivin transfer case! Very tuff T-case...if the oil inside is clean you can bet it is fine, so check the gear oil and look for obvious cracks, rare but I would look anyway. Shifting a 205 can be stiff or stickiy at times but rolling the drive train forward and backwords should 'un-bind' the 205.
As for the donor truck the frame cracking at the steering box is the biggest problem but it doesn't sound like you care much about the rest of the truck...
Good luck

Re: Buying another truck...

what axles do you have on your SWB? If they are drums then I would swap axles for discs off your donor, take the power steering as well..

Re: Buying another truck...

Well,it turns out to have had the np203 transfer case so I am going to pass on that deal.I guess I will continue my search for one.Man that makes me mad,I am going to be set farther back and might not meet the deadline to have it running.

Re: Buying another truck...

Well,I still went and looked at it and I might buy it for the rebuilt motor and transmission and just buy a seperate transfer case.It looked ok but had usual rust but I dont care about the body because I am not going to keep it
