truck with protecto-plate

I have a 3/4 ton with 93,xxx miles it has ok floors, but the needs the usual rust repair. Cab corners, rockers, partial floor pans and cab supports will need attention. It will also need the inner cab patch panel as well. I also have the protecto-plate and a clear title for this truck. I however have another 71 chevy 1/2 ton with 41,xxx original miles on it and want to finish that first. My question is would there be any interest out there for the 3/4 ton? I hate to just part it out since I do have the protecto-plate for it.

Re: truck with protecto-plate

sorry to hyjack but is having a protecto plate important? What does it mean to its value?

Just curious because i found the protecto plate for mine sitting ontop of the heater box under the dash, only found it because i replaced the glove box liner.

Re: truck with protecto-plate

It looks like a military dog tag only larger, its metal and has the original owners name and address stamped on it along with other particulars of the truck when new.

Re: truck with protecto-plate

Protectoplates were issued to the original buyer by the dealership and was a metal embossed tag ( like a credit card) and was used for warranty purposes and has information about the vehicle..
The protectoplates are valuable for rare cars and trucks that are restored to original conditions and a lot of people desire them when the buy an old vehicle.
That is still a great find, I wish I had the protectoplate for my 1969 Corvette that would definitely increase the value of the car.
I am sure other people may have more info.

Merry Christmas

i found mine in the original plastic cover tucked in the original owners manual, thank god the glove box liner rotted away and it all fell behind it where it was kept pristine

Re: truck with protecto-plate

I found mine in the glove box when I bought my truck. It was inside of the book that is pictured. They are basically a stamp that puts all the truck's and owner's info on warranty paperwork. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Re: truck with protecto-plate

Here's an interesting question....

What was the warranty like back then??? 2 years 20K? 5 years 60K? Bumper to bumper?

1 year, 12,000 Miles. Pretty much like now covers all the normal stuff except those that typically wear out (tires, filters etc)

Lol taht is interesting seeing as how my 71 has managed to go 35 years with noting other than routine stuff like LOF, plugs, wires, cap rotors, 1 carb rebuild and 1 starter and a few clutches...369,000 miles later it was still running with until I tore into it...

I wish they made crap now like they used too...with real steel and iron....

Re: truck with protecto-plate

Back in the day, there was no such thing as "loaner cars", "after warranty adjustments" you got 12mos or 12k which ever came first, and there were several muscle cars that had no warranty. Once you hit the street it was yours. In 1981 I worked for Porsche Audi, and the Audi warranty wae 24/24, and was the best in the industry.

Re: truck with protecto-plate

I got the original protecto-o-plate with mine & the sales invoice showing what options he ordered for it along with the original sales brochure from the dealer ship.
