Exclamation Full length only...

I notice most of you guys use shorty headers. Why is that? I am building a 67 stepside, and putting in a 500in big block. I really want to use full length headers for hp reasons. I see on the copperhead truck they use full sanderson pipes. Has anyone installed them, or any other?

Re: Full length only...

I had hookers on my last truck and loved them. Fit great, didn't hang real low, sealed up nice... good stuff.
I haven't noticed many ppl goin with shorties here myself, mostly full length.
Is that a 500 cad you are putting together... or you doin up a chevy to 500 cubes?

Re: Full length only...

The guys on here running shortys are doing so mostly for clearance reasons when they are lowered. Most of the long-tubes hang down so low they will get dragged off. I have a nice set of ceramic-coated Sandersons looking pretty on my guest bedroom floor, but I'm about to pull the motor and my truck's all apart so it's gonna be a while before they go on.

Re: Full length only...

67fleet is right on the money the only reason I have ceramic coated Hooker shorty headers is because my truck is so low the exhaust would be left on the first speedbump I encountered if I had the full lenght headers.

Re: Full length only...

my old hookers were high enough, that the suspention would bottom out and they wouldn't hit unless I was being stupid on a speed bump, and with 500,000 mile old front springs, it bottomed out a lot.

They look nice! The jury is still out on the performance, but I did a lot of research on them before I shelled out the money. The flanges are super thick, so I don't think I'll have to worry about leaks.

Nova headers will work? how close to the firewall do they dump? I want to change from my full length to something a bit shorter, and coated. Any input would be great...

Nope mines dropped 4" in the front and clears about 3-4 of ground clearance with LT's. I bought the nova LT's cause I dont like seeing my exhaust hang down. Plus it will scrape certain places. only happened a couple times though.
