pink wire question

Changing to a HEI style distributor can i use the pink wire to run the HEI?Also is the green wire for the temp sensor.

You need a full 12+ volts to operate the HEI correctly. As far as the pink wire, you need to test it with the key on and see what it gives. Then have someone turn the ignition to the start position and confirm it still has 12+ volts. Of course in the off position it should be zero. Hope this helps, sometimes you will find there is a resistor in line that drops voltage to the coil. If that is the case you will need to replace the wire.

I always pull the factory harness apart and replace the existing resistor wire from the the bulkhead connector with a 12 ga pink. And yes the dark green wire is for the sender

To answer your question ---NO, do not use the stock pink wire to run your HEI. You need a heavier gauge and a full 12V DC to your distributor for your HEI to function correctly. Re wire to the HEI from your ignition for correct operation. You may also need to change your vacuum advance to ported vacuum depending on which HEI you use. Huck
